Had a BLAST fishing on the Thunderbird with Capt. Murphy docked in Port Mansfield on Tuesday. Everyone limited out with Red Snapper!! I caught the largest Red snapper and the longest eel the captain had ever seen!!
Here's some photos before the autopsy(sp?).

Great catch! Never fished down that way. How far do they run out?

Cws11, I don't know how far out just know it took 2-1/2 hours. Port Mansfield is located the closest to the deep water, but we did go out to international waters...not state waters because we were allowed 4 Red Snapper each.

You can only keep 4 red snapper in state waters, not Federal waters. Right now you can't keep any red snapper in Federal waters and only 2 during the season. This means you were in state water, i.e., 9 nautical miles or less from the coast

I figured Capt Murphy's was a federally permitted vessel.

Captain Murphy is the name of the charter service not the vessel. The vessel mentioned is the Thunderbird and you will find it is not a federal permitted vessel. They have another head boat Murphy's Law which is federal permitted.

Can someone explain how the Feds count recreational Red Snapper catch?

And .... you can run for over two hours in one direction or another from PM and still be in state waters.
