It's my first March since moving to Cedar Creek Lake, and I've been disappointed with how slow the lake has been to warm up this year. It was still just 54 degrees on the main lake where I was, and 57 degrees in the back of the cove where I spent most of my time today. But, it's now late enough in March that I thought there should be shallow fish to be found, even if the water was still cooler than I like for spawning fish.

I was on the water at the crack of 9:00. I really like fishing later in the day better this time of year, but the forecast for this afternoon didn't sound too promising, so I figured I'd better not wait too late to get on the water. Cedar Creek is just over 3 1/2 feet low.

Sometimes, a plan just comes together. I still don't know Cedar Creek very well, and just picked out a few coves on a map to try out. I ended up just staying in the first one I tried. I caught 25 keeping size crappie, most of them really nice ones. I kept 8 of the real monsters, and released the rest.

All fish were caught on a 2" chartreuse/glitter tube, on a 1/12 oz tube jig head, 14 inches or so under a bobber. Several of the fish were so shallow, I was still trying to drag the jig out to deep enough water to float the bobber when they bit. Once I got the bobber floating, most fish wanted it fished very slowly. Lots hit after it had been sitting still for 15 or 20 seconds.

It was 12:30 or so when I caught my 25th keeper, and I decided to stop and eat lunch. I had intended to look at a few more coves after I ate, but after checking the weather radar on my phone, I changed my mind, and headed for the ramp. I had just got my boat backed back into the garage when the rain hit. Like I said, sometimes, a plan just comes together.

Outstanding! With all the rain today, I'm thinking it may warm the water. Gonna give it one last shot in the morning!

57 degrees and they are shallow, . good job figuring them out Mr. B. You are aware that temp isn't everything. This proves what ive been saying all along. yet the old guard will still argue against these facts.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

Great Job. Cedar Creek is an awesome fishery. Selfies make the fish look huge, but that is a nice crappie.

Don't sweat the small stuff. It's all small stuff.

You bet, Woody! I'm game for a McClain's breakfast and fishing talk any morning when I don't have to leave for work too early.

Remember this trip the next time its seems nothing is going your way. wink

Nice crappie!

Jesus said to them, "Children, do you have any fish?" They answered him, "No." He said to them, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some." So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. (John 21:5,6)
