With the lake at 235.5 the mouth of Yegua and Nails at the lake will have plenty of current so maybe the whitebass are doing their sexy-time thing right there in the open. You guys that have dragged yak into either creek know the area of the Yegua I'm speaking of.. It certainly merits an investigation and would be very fly fish friendly too... The areas with the red dots are of most interest..

How far is that point from the boat ramp. Can it be driven to. I'd sure like to give it a shot this weekend. Don't have a yak.

hell I don't think you can get a regular boat up to that spot much less a car! I guess someone could wade up to that point but it is going to be muddy !

I was thinking about it. But that is all I seem to be doing this year... Thinking about it.

Dang! Shame on me! I need a lot less talk and a lot more action.

Tight lines!

I'm curious how the water levels might be if we get some more rain at Somerville tonight. I hope we get enough to open up the yegua for the spawn. That would be wonderful.

tight lines!

here's the best site I've found to monitor the lake level.. http://somerville.lakesonline.com/Level.asp

More rain will only make things better, maybe not right now but for the future. The lake needs to be very near normal level going into summer heat. Evaporation alone accounts for 40 inches or more per year from the lake and that doesn't change much from year to year. Downstream demands are the biggest factors when it comes to lake levels..

Thats interesting about the evaporation of the lake. Anybody try any of the creeks before this rain?

I may give Nails Creek a try tomorrow. I'll report back if I do.

Went out there today with my dad. Nails Creek is pretty good. Water is flowing but fairly slow, muddy as well. There were a handful of people out there, 5-10 whites a person, 12-15 inchers. It came down to finding the right holes. If I went again, I would jig the bank more than casting. Most of my fish were caught right at my feet. Most holes held no more than 4 fish. If you don't land the jig on their heads, they wouldn't bite

I friend of mine went to Birch Creek on Tuesday, he got about 12 whites for about 3 hours. I went on Thurday, I did not get any bite until end of days. I ended up 4 whites. Friday, I went back hoping for a better day. I got skunk.

I went to Irwing Bridge near end of February, the gate was locked. I wonder if Irwing Bridge park is permanently close. Any one knows?

Irwing bridge is my other favorite spot. However, the kids and the wife do not want to go there...

While catching fish is the enjoyment of fishing, if we catching every time we go fishing then there is no more excitement in fishing any more.
