I will be getting a boat soon and will have to keep it in the driveway for several months. I am looking for advice and tips on storing your boat in your driveway. Things to do and things not to do to keep it in the best condition, etc... Thanks

Be sure that it's sitting with the transom lower than the rest of the boat and the plug pulled. Use a cover but open it up from time-to-time to be sure that moisture/condensation can evaporate. To get all the water out of the bilge, you can put a small piece of wet rag in the plug hole....let it hang down a few inches lower than the plug...and it will be like a siphon...getting the last water out. Move it from time-to-time to keep the tires from getting flat spots. Put a small dab of petroleum jelly in the water outlet of the motor....it keeps dirt daubers from clogging it up and blows out as soon as you crank the engine.

add:
Tilt motor down so that is vertical to properly drain internal water paths...especially anytime freezing temps may occur.

Don't leave any thing that you don't want someone else to have (Stolen). I came home from work one day and noticed something was not right Thiefs had stolen my Boat cover a battery charger and a pair of binoculars. They did not look below deck as there was several $$$$ in tackle ect. It all stays locked up means I have to put tackle ect in boat before trips but cheaper than Buying more and the flustration. Also buy a wheel chock, you can get it at Academy I also use the wheel chock at the ramp if its is steep just insurance in case truck slips out of gear.
Have fun be safe go catch um.

Thanks, great info.
I have a camera system on my house so that should hopefully help with any potential thefts.

Looks like everyone else covered all the basics above. Treat your fuel with a good fuel stabilizer Oh and get a trailer tongue lock .

Scribble identifying numbers on anything on in the boat that can be stolen. Write those numbers down and keep them in a safe place for future reference. If you can get a removable tongue for your trailer, even better.

This for sure, work as hard as you can to get this rig indoors. Even a carport is better than nothing....I'm about to start construction on a shop to store mine in in about a month......The guys that build the carports can build me a 20' x 30' shop with 2 roll up doors and a pedestrian door on a 4 inch slab for $7500....as soon as this is done I'll be buying my next rig.........

Depending on where you live there are several considerations to be made. HOA's are probably the worst to deal with thank god there isn't one in my neiborhood or I'd be in constant violation. The other is building codes, when I finally decided to bone up and do what I had wanted to do for twenty years I checked and even though I live in Garland they do have a building code believe it or not. So long story short instead of putting up a tin building I had to put in something that matched the residential structure. I was very surprised after doing A LOT of research I found that Tuffshed could prefab and site build at a very reasonable price what I always wanted. I even had enough left over to put in the carport too. Garage: Tuffshed Premier Series 14'x28' Fence: Hevenly Fence Carport: Daniel Carports

I'll add something a lot people never think about if you have a removable tongue get a lock for bottom of the pin because tongue lock pretty useless if someone can slide there tongue in off they go.

All good comments and advice above. I have motor ear muffs that I use to run the motor at least once a month. And I keep them on through the warmer months to keep the dirt daubers from nesting. And I stuff a red shop rag in the exhaust for the same reason. On security I have big chains and Master Locks wrapped over the axle and coming through the wheels so a)can't get the wheels off and b)if they tried to hook up and drive off the wheels won't roll once the slack is taken up. Keep it covered and under certain circumstances put a blue tarp on for ice weather. I lucked out on our ice storm last December. Couldn't get the second tarp on in time from being out of town. The freezing rain landed on the cover and created a hard shell which was stiff/rigid enough to hold up under the 2-2.5 inches of sleet that followed. Last year red wasps evidently made a home up in there somewhere for every time I removed the cover there would be one or two. So I started looking under the cover for them and ended up killing 15 or so with bug spray. I poked and prodded up under the gunnels and in the water channel that runs through the center of the boat but could never get them stirred up enough to find them. They got in because my when I pull the cover up over the motor it leaves a gap and given I left the charger plugged in I always propped up the bilge door for battery ventilation.... Things you learn over time. But so far 3 years in the driveway no problems. Knock on wood!!! Good luck JT

Oh and another thing. Both of the graphs come out. I have a Lowrance HDS 5 at the console which I rigged up to be held in place with stainless steel cables on a small turnbuckle that I bought from Lowes. The turnbuckle hooks into a threaded D-ring I installed under the console. To cut down on road vibration effects I usually install the graphs at the lake.
So in less than 10 minutes in the dark I can install the GPS puck and both graphs and I'm good to go!!!
