Nice job with the long sticks
Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Robert: Well done... Are you the fisherman Terry Keck told me about yesterday at BRSC meeting ? And did you fish out of River Ridge ? I fished there last Fri/sat and did not do well at all. What baits were you using,we fished the usual red head roadrunners at Murvual creek and river sandbars with very little luck. The Sabine in the spring is sandbass heaven.

Yes I don't know if I should admit it or not but Terry is one of my best friends I Fish Bass with him all the time. I bet he didn't tell you about threatening to drown me for out fishing him all the time did he? I don't know if you saw the Sabine River Sandbassn post two weeks ago but that was our group as well. The water was a lot dirtier this trip as the rise in the river happened shortly before we got there. But the fish were definitely getting close to peaking out you could see flashes of them very shallow chasing each other around in preparation to spawn. In talking with Jane she said she felt that would be this weekend and I have to agree with her it really seemed like they were about to be full-blown. With the muddy water this trip I actually used a 5/8 ounce shad colored lipless crank to find a group of fish and then I would pick up the flyrod and just start picking them off and catch eight or 10 real quick and then find another little group of fish and catch another eight or 10 real quick. I can assure you of one thing they are sure a blast on my flyrod. We actually got smart this trip and just set up shop on one shoal and fished it the entire day every fish we caught came off of it.

I sure do appreciate some insight, I have some very special folks coming up from Lafayette to fish with me and I hope to catch at least a limit. The weather forecast is looking kinda shabby but hey, give it a couple hours it's Texas! Hahaha

We had water soaking in a pot from cooking that night and in the morning when we woke up it was frozen solid but it warmed up quick and the fish turned on immediately. I really don't think a guy could go wrong with a half ounce rattletrap if you were fishing conventional. It was easy to locate the schools of fish with it.

Very simply, the sabine can be addictive. I need another fix. Good job Robert and group.

I really have to say if anyone was looking to go. This rain we got will most likely bring up the remaining bulk of the fish It should be on fire this week with the warm weather up coming. By far the best average size I have I countered in Texas. When we talked to Jane at river ridge when we left. The first thing she said was y'all didn't paddle far did you?The fish are every where no need to move at all. If you are wondering if you can get your boat in as long as you have a 4x4 I am sure you could get any boat in but it is river fishing just be careful.
