I recently obtained an abu garcia 7000. but no rod. Will a 7ft Penn Power stick fit the bill? My father always used Penn products, but i know there's other decent rods out there... can anyone help guide me? Ive saved & could spend 150... thanks

Like a wade fishing reel? All the power sticks I saw online look pretty heavy duty. Can you post a picture Of your reel, there are many 7000 models.

Judging from the size reel and the power of the rod you are looking at, I would guess you want a sturdy, all around setup for jetty/pier/surf use. I would personally recommend a longer rod for that reel if you are going to be casting. If it is going to be a boat rod, that Power Stick looks good. For a little more all purpose, you might take a look at the 7'6" or 7'9 Cabela's Saltstriker rod or something like a moderate-fast action, heavy powered 9' rod. Or you could just put in on a surf rod. With 50 pound braid that reel has around a 450 yard capacity, so you would be fine.

oh yeah. Sorry for omitting details (kinda new here)
I will mainly head to the jetties... and maybe the beach. Family likes going to the beach, but my thing is fishing haha. Thanks again for the tips. Moderate fast action eh? Right-O
I've never used braid but I'll have to try it out one day.

Ok. Will longer rods come in 1-piece? or are they all 2-piece?

Are you looking for a 2 piece rod? That's a heavy duty reel. 10ft ugly stick or an 8ft or 9ft cabelas whuppin stick. Don't let the low price fool you its only 29.

Whuppin sticks are definitely worth the money. Gave one to a buddy of mine that I had for over 10 years and it is still going strong.

For the surf / jetties a 9 foot or longer is the way to go.

And at that price you might as well get two at different lengths, that reel is a good reel take care of it.

Nothin wrong with a two piece, I use for surf fishing. Would be funny with a 12ft rod stickin out the back of my truck.

It its a good rod it shouldn't break. Just make sure it can hold up to what you plan on using it for and you shouldn't have any problems.
