I have had great results with Tuff Stuff foaming carpet cleaner.

I used to use Stanley Jigging Juice a lot back in the day which left oil stains in my carpet, I found Mean Green or Simple Green with a little scrubbing and rinse will get that out. Someone mentioned high pressure washing and yes it will work but be careful with that and NEVER and I mean NEVER high pressure wash the rest of your rig. You can cut the gel coat (or the carpet) and totally destroy electronic equipment doing this, and wash off the wax you just worked your tail off to apply......Don't ask me how I know this.........

As long as you don't scrub too hard with the brush, or get too close as mentioned with the sprayer, the carpet should be fine right?
Meaning, it will not make it more suceptable in anyway to thin out or tear easier? I am also assuming keep it covered and/or in the garage when not in use helps out also.
I only ask because I have a small boat now, and admit the carpet in it isn't anything special so maybe that is why also, but have done the washing thing as mentioned and after a while it has started to tear just from the bottom of my shoe catching on it and such.

Just me I would totally fore go the high pressure wash "period", because if you are at a carwash that just means you are going to have to do a high pressure rinse as well, more opportunity to inflict damage on your carpet. Scrubbing is far less damaging and you can rinse with a garden hose afterward.........

Mix 1 part vinegar and 5 parts water. Soak the carpet and scrub it with a hard brush. It get's rid of all minerals from the water and makes the carpet look great. Use Resolve for any spots that don't come-out. Sorry for tooting my own horn, but this one really works well, is cheap, and no doubt worth a try if you haven't already. Also, it won't damage your carpet like professional cleaners might. Some of the chemicals some cleaners use will not sit well with the adhesive used to glue carpets down -- I know, it's happened to me. I work for a professional carpet cleaning co. and having the right equipment makes a big difference. I wouldn't recomend using resolve in your carpet, or other cleaners like this. Unless you know what your doing, there is nothing wrong with the cleaner , but if it sets in your carpet and you don't remove all the residue than it can leave a stain it's self. When you use a product like this make SURE you rinse it all with hot water and take a shop vac and suck out all you can. Be sure you get it real good. We clean pretty cheap, and do as good a job (if not better) than the other big cleaning companies. Look us up brcarpetcleaning.com if we clean your house we can also get the boat, and other upholstery you would like.

Just a comment on any of these methods...get all the soap out. Have you guys ever washed the floor mats in your truck and tried to get all the soap out? Same deal with boat carpet. It takes a long time and can cause moisure to condense in places that simply being caught out in the rain doesn't. I washed mine once back-in-the-day and later was out in a rainstorm....soap bubbles everywhere and very slick. Another thing is to dry it thoroughly. Maybe open all the lids and put a small fan in the bilge. It can help prevent corrosion on electronic connections, as well as mold.

If you start out with a clean carpet and use the water/vinegar wash, it's very rare there's any stain that won't come out with water. Dirt from shoes, blood, spilled coffee, etc., all come out easily as long as you don't let them sit forever. Resolve rarely is needed and, when it is, only in very small spots so it's easy to completely scrub it out.

I agree that using soap works but can be difficult to completely rinse away which is important. I have used my power washer before in the past but am very careful to keep the wand a fair distance and don't spray anything but the carpet. In the past when I have done it I raise the nose of the boat as high as I can possibly get it and support it and then wash with just water. It has always cleaned up real nice.

Next time you get your carpets cleaned at home ask the guys while they are there if they will clean your boat carpet... few bucks cash did it for me.

I clean carpets in a lot of boats. Around $50-75 on how bad it is to do a 20 foot bass boat should be about what you should pay. And it does work alot better at getting ground in dirt out than a pressure washer. It doesn't take but a few minutes to do with truck mounted equipment and will be dry within an hour outside. Most carpet cleaning companies can do it for you if they want to. I clean mine about every 2-3 months but I fish a lot.
