Does it show that much more detail to make it worth it? I have been told it was by someone who want one and been told it wasn't by someone who doesn't have one.

Check out the Webapp at Navionics.com, zoom into the areas you fish and it will show all of the mapping available to you in your area. Also, keep in mind that since the introduction of Sonar Charts, that data base is constantly improving. Sonar Charts is a feature that will allow users of certain electronics to record data and upload it to the Navionics website and it will update the areas recorded in 1' contours.
