feel like when you caught her..mostly concerning slow moving baits Cranks, spinners pretty much self-explanatory. im more concerned about how it felt before you set the hook..

Ex...was it a hard thump, light thump or any other way he hit and if you caught it on a C-Rig how was that feeling..just a little info and help for the ones who have never caught a DD and what to expect or how to catch that DD...

Thanks for all Responses..

never even come close to a DD but I have had good quality fish (4lb range) that nibble like trout, and dinks hammer my bait like a whale (and vice-versa.) Guess it depends on what technique you are using, and how actively they are hunting.

Caught her on a crank bait. Very light tap and she did not load up hard until I got her to the surface. Once she came up the fight was on.

My dad said his DD came on a very light jig bite. Barely felt the fish pick up the jig. Set the hook and I thought he was digging the jig into a log. After he kept reeling for a few more seconds, I realized he had on a monster.

Just a solid thump on a shakey head and she started swimming off with it, when I set the hook it was like setting the hook in a stump!

- 5 DD's on a C-Rig, light 1/8 oz. weight with 18 inch leader. Two on a fluke, 2 on a lizard and one on Lake Fork Secret 10" worm. All were the same with 40 yards of line out. They just loaded up and all wanted to come up and jump. 3 of them was caught on Amistad using braid around 25 ft. deep grass. 2 were caught on Ivie on the lizard pitching heavy river trees. Both gave a good thump but nothing different than a 4 or 5 lb. Bass.

- 10 in Mexico all on my tweaked spinner bait in January over several years. They slammed it. Using braid running it through the brush in 3 ft. of water. Never gave them time to fight. Skied all of them to the boat and in the net.

- 5 in Mexico on my Spook over the years. All caught while sitting after the cast or while making it do two 180 degree turns then letting it sit. Never caught a big bass walking the dog. All very small blow ups they just suck it in and take off. Was using 25 lb. Stren Mono..

- 5 on falcon. All five within one hour in 18 ft. of water next to the river channel. Caught them on a 7" Yumdinger. Used a C-Rig with 3/8 oz. weight pegged and slid up the line on 25 lb. XPS Floro. All bit the same with a good thump. Was not dragging like on Amistad. All were within casting distance.

- 2 other DD's on Falcon on my spinner bait. Same with braid and slide them to the boat. Both in a foot of water. Knew they were coming; saw the bush shake and hit like a freight train.

I've caught 4 so the bite I remember most was throwing a T rig craw by a boat dock at night. I picked it up and it felt just like moss, then I felt it let it go. I thought dam that was a fish ahold of it. I reeled back in and cast back to the same spot. It felt like moss again when I picked it up so I crossed her eyes this time. She went almost 11 pounds. If it feels different JERK!

Hmmm...
Either very light or nothing like just heavy, or sometimes a total kill shot hard bite-those are the best.
Sometimes just like any other bite or even like oh this is a perch-so I suggest set the hook like its a dd every single time.

I've caught 6 eight lbers and they all have felt about the same as any other bite. But usually as soon as you set the hook you can tell its a bigger fish.

Small bite always, when I set the hook I thought I was hung every time.

Felt like a normal 3 or 4 pounder at first, then the fight was on. Spinnerbait, 14 lb test stren.
