They didn't have a fish over 13lbs in that bag so sharelunker is irrelevant for them. I just always thought the program was meant to care for the fish and help the lakes create bigger bass by using the spawn/fry if the fish is able to spawn.
I get some may say it is always best to return the fish where it was caught so it can actually spawn in the lake, but figured TPWD took care of the fish as well.
I happened to look at the sharelunker page and didn't see this fish and wondered if there was a rule because of the tournament is all.
I imagine there are some caught, at all times during the year, we don't hear about or weren't entered. They do try to take care of the fish, I suspect a lot of mortality has to do with the angler handling the fish too much. If the fish survives, TPWD give you the option to do what you want with the fish, including returning it to the original lake, or letting them keep it.

I won't speak for the Falcon locals, they do a good job of that. But the distance involved and the temperatures in South Texas make donating a Falcon fish to SAL extremely risky, due to mortality.
"free reproduction" ... no offense to you or anyone else who donates for this reason alone. BUT, a good replica is $400. I'm always surprised that folks place the value of a real trophy at $400. I'll guarantee you the restitution fee for that fish were it taken illegally would be much higher than $400. Are we really so strapped for cash that we need a free replica? Or is it more of a recognition thing? I suspect some of both.
If you look at the SAL lists for the past several years, almost every fish donated is between 13 and 14 pounds. That's because that is the threshold TPWD/SAL has set. Kinda hard for us to raise 17-18 pound fish in Texas when so many of our barely teenagers get donated. Did it ever occur to you that some people actually believe in the program and think they're doing the right thing? Be careful you don't fall off of that giant high horse. Did it ever occur to you that folks have differing opinions? Don't attack me for expressing mine, jackarse. I see both sides clearly. You seem to be the close minded one here. And isn't name calling a primary violation of the rules on here?

Not really. My opinion is based on many years of observation. There was a time I would have donated. That time has long since passed.

[quote=JakeOFF]A lot of guys wouldn't submit a SAL because they despise TPWD for destroying their fishery. Here's an example from the team that caught the 44lb bag on Austin a couple weeks ago. http://www.austinbassfishing.com/forum/black-bass-fishing-reports/41118-44-lbs-2.html#post351254Dude, thanks for posting that. I have fished almost my entire life and didn't realize this. Why in the hell would the TPWD do that? I mean, I guess if grass is taking over a lake to where you can't fish or do anything at all maybe I get it. But it isn't smart. I mean, look at Falcon, from what I am reading they are trying to get TPWD to remove the gar because that is one thing that is killing and having a negative effect on the bass.

Not really. My opinion is based on many years of observation. There was a time I would have donated. That time has long since passed. So you feel the need to insult anyone who does? You're one classy dude. And I've heard so from MANY of the folks at Fork, they LOVE you. Lol. For the record, I won't donate a SAL either. But I understand the people who think its the right thing to do, it's not always someone after a free replica and to those that do believe, that's really insulting.

That's funny. Some folks look for any reason to be offended. If my opinion insults you or anyone else, well, we all have one. Go troll somewhere else.

I don't know you personally so you're incapable of offending me, irritating yes, offending no.
Your opinion isn't the issue. It you accusing people of looking for a free replica, which simply isn't always true. But if you want to be wrong and look like a fool, fire away. We're used to it.

My point is where he said "If I was lucky enough to catch a 13+ out of that lake I damn sure wouldn't be giving it to the very guys that will ultimately be responsible for destroying it."
