But if he can catch and eat your (taxpayer) fish, then why can't he catch them and keep them alive.. That makes no sense whatsoever. Because he is putting them where the general public doesn't have access to them. But the general public does not have access to me freezer... Or stomach. I call bs. Call it what you want. This is was just my guess as to why it was illegal, which I would have sworn it was. But with the help of TSHIRTFAN's post, I found the link.http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/faq/landwater/fisheries/ I've been wrong before, this won't be the last time.

Nor does the general public have access to his stomach as he eats them. If anything he is saving taxpayer money as he will not be fishing in taxpayer lakes once his pond is productive. P.S. Can I come fish it when it's ready. We can call it Pond X and keep the location secret while bragging about all the huge crappie we are catching from it. I'll let you know when it's in full swing...

Thanks. I would even donate some of the crappie to stock it with, assuming I ever catch any legal sized crappie again. Opps, I forgot, I caught 4 last week but I've already processed them through my stomach. Don't think you would want those. Those were the only 4 legal sized I've caught in the last three months so I don't know how long it will be before I catch some more legal sized.

Pretty sure that means you cant stock your private pond or use them as fertilizer. But if he can catch and eat your (taxpayer) fish, then why can't he catch them and keep them alive.. That makes no sense whatsoever. exactly. if a man wants to fish he: buys boat, pays taxes on boat pays for registering boat pays taxes on gas he puts in the boat pays taxes on all equipment bought to catch fish buys license(who knows where that money goes) what that man does with the fish he catches is his business. he can grind'em up and fertilize his garden for all I care. once they're in your live well, you own them. Once they are in your live well the state bases its law that your plan is for consumption of the fish, not for using them as fertilizer or to start your own breeding program in a private pond or lake. nice edit. you can do with the fish you catch, as long as you're legal, whatever the hell you want. you nor anybody from the state or federal gubment ain't gonna tell me what I can do with the fish I caught legally. part period. end of story. unless of course you want to physically make me. give it a rest.

May not be recommended, but I have seen a good amount of crappie come from farm ponds in the 3-5 acre range!
Always have plenty of cover.

Here is what a simple GOOGLE provided via the TPWD website.
Can I catch fish in public water and take them home to stock my pond?
Fish that are legally harvested from public water may be stocked in a private pond. Legally harvested fish are caught by someone who holds the required fishing license, observing all applicable length limits, daily bag limits, and gear restrictions. For more information on licenses and regulations, see the Texas Outdoor Annual.

I'm glad someone found the answer on TPWD. This topic got me thinking about something I saw at a aquarium store last weekend. They had a few live alligator gars for sale. They were about 8 inches long. I don't recall the price, but I think it was $59.99 each which I thought it was a lot of money. I was wondering if it's legal to catch some from a lake and stock a large aquarium at home. I'm not planning on doing it, but I was curious since it sounds similar to this post.
