LOL yep I never started to do real well before April 1rst-15th that I can remember. Reading some of the spawn post on the spawn coming remind me of kids waiting on Christmas and mom saying it will be here before you know it just be patient. Very cool and interesting that you keep a journal! Someone should start a thread asking everyone when they started sacking them up last year shallow I think it would be interesting thread?

I know a guy that loses his mind after a couple 70 degree days in February or March. Never met anyone that gets so antsy. He swears the spawn is almost over with by the end of March and he has missed the best fishing. And there ain't no talking him out of thinking it. bang
It was in the middle of April last year when the action got good here in Central Texas.
I myself have yet to go out this year but plan on start hunting them down Either this or next weekend.

typically the best spawn action on most lakes is in mid april
its easy to git fired up on warmer days in march though
to bad most a the time the fish aint ready in numbers
we managed fish with eggs shallow last year at several spots until late june
I thought that was unusual myself ....
2 or 3 weeks and it should get right fun for the crappie ketchers thumb

Caught a 12" crappie in my cast net while catching bait at wolf creek in 2 feet of water yesterday afternoon, but no one around the area were catching any though. Mind boggling!!

Mid April sounds great to me. That is just about the time the doctors will release me to fish again. smile

when you see some bluebonnets blooming in central texas, RUN m dont walk to your favorite hole. also north texas usually turns on a little bit before central texas. thats been my observation.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

Keith, this long drawn out winter with strong cold fronts coming in every week has the crappie all messed up!
IMO, it's NOT too early, the fish would be there if we had consistent warm nights with temps at least around 55 +.
I get to fish more than most on the forum and I know from experience, if you have some warm water temps for three days or more, with temps being 58-62, more than likely the fish will be there.
Remember Feb. 23rd when we had a 86 degree day, that was a Sunday. On Monday the 24th, I caught a limit on Granger, and prob 50 fish. All but 10 of the fish were caught in 1-2 ft of water.

Since that day, I have prob fished Granger at least 7 days and have not caught a shallow crappie since then. I have caught a few around stumps in 8ft of water, but that's it.

I have fished deep, intermediate range and shallow and the fish have not been there.

Normally the forum would be lit up with all the good catches that people are having....
not this year!
Most everyone I know on most lakes are having problems this year.

It will get better soon!

I'm always in a good mood when I'm fishing.

Same here .. I was catching in shallow
That same time too .. No limits but catching. .
Then stinking cold fronts made them dis appear .
