You don't want regular black/white crappie in a 6ac pond.Look into "magnolia"crappie they are a hybrid that can't reproduce.

No they will not spawn, relocation will require an acclimation period(next season maybe) I have a large 30+acre pond I stocked with public lake crappie brood fish (1.5-2+lb)within 5 yrs solid 3lb fish are very common. It will take many more then just 25 to get solid business underway, adding fish every season is what I did.I didnt add any bass until after the 5th year to give the crappie a dominate presence. A few really "pig" flathead cats seem to have all things in order. take crappie from a lake and put in a private pond? For instance, say you put 25 full grown crappies (males & females) in a 6 acre pond, fully loaded with eggs. Will these fish still spawn? Approximately how long would it take before the pond started producing nice crappies?

A flathead will eat everything really quickly in a 6 acre pond.....I personally think black crappie will be fine as long as you have plenty of healthy channel cats to keep the crappie numbers down, you don't feel bad about keeping 8-9" fish, and your forage base is good.

Great information guys. I really appreciate everyone's advice. I think what I need to do now is to start stocking it with some breams and channel cats...

About to do the same thing with two ponds on our place. Only I am going to relocate catfish. Both ponds have perch, but we haven't caught anything else out of them.
Waiting on Bob Davis' next selfie

I would honestly wait until winter to do it. Crappie are not as tough in the spring and warmer temps get them. That being said the minnows are a good idea and I would order 100 black crappie from a farm, it's only about $40-60 and it doesn't pose the threat of transferring disease or parasites like lake fish do. I would do this. Dunns Not only that they are great to talk to.

I learned a long time ago if you have to ask if its legal there is a good chance it isn't. License holders and the sportsman's tax go to support tpwd and its stocking efforts and programs. The way I see it is you are taking state (taxpayers) property and making it yours by stocking in a private pond. So my taxes are paying for your crappie for your private pond. We could call it CrappieCare Also as someone has raised and bred lots tropical fish there are many variables to take into consideration when relocating fish. Water Hardness, Ph, healthy bacterial colonies, oxygen saturation etc... I think it would be best to start off with some 2-3inch crappie or smaller then you could get them feeding on pellets check out this article for more info on pellets. crappie pellets

But if he can catch and eat your (taxpayer) fish, then why can't he catch them and keep them alive.. That makes no sense whatsoever.
