Should I use rubber washers to put in between the the fiberglass and the trolling motor base or should I just mount directly to the boat? I am installing a MinnKota Fourtrex,

I've always used the rubber between the glass and mount. Someone might have a better way but I've never had one mounted directly to surface of boat.

wal mart, auto section, get some of this tread material. uses 3m adhesive so all you need do is clean with alcohol. 2 pcs to a pack and only about 8.00

on the 80lb and larger we don't use the rubber spacers. too much torque on the motor.
use a piece of stripping like above or non skid tape. or just mount directly to boat.

I like to cut out a truck mud flap and use it as a gasket between troll motor and boat, much more durable than the cheezy rubber bumpers.

Thanks for the help guys, hopalong I like your idea! about the same stuff as pats mud flap, it is not soft by any means. I used it so water would drain from under the mount.

Have seen very few boats with a good level surface to mount direct to the bow. Will cause binding problems. You can shim where needed with stainless washers if you do not like the rubber.
