I got a late start today but I'm here the boat right now. Weather says 18+ miles an hour and I am solo. I really want to get some hooks wet. Do y'all fish in this weather you have a big Big boat or Smallboat? My heart says chance it to fish but my gut says NO SIR! I am not going to chance it but was curious if boys fish in this type of wind. ITS HEAVEY!!

Fish a windy bank from the shore and stay safe. The fish are shallow.

Find a way to hide. Creeks, rivers, and some coves are sheltered from the wind. Have a backup plan as to where you are launching. Have fishable waters close to the ramp.
If possible make your way from ramp INTO the wind. This way if it gets worse while on the water your ride back to ramp is with the wind.

Great Choice! No bud, I have never met you. You posted a pic of your personal best the other day and I remembered what kind of boat you we're in. grin I fish solo a lot and I do fish in the windy stuff. I have a big boat and it's still tough on bad windy days. cheers

This is a picture of a guy I saved about 5 years ago. He was out with a PARTNER and was in a small aluminum boat somewhat like yours. He fell out of the boat and it ran over him. His partner was able to get him back in, but thats when all heck broke loose. This guy was bleeding terrible and the engine wouldn't start. All of the sudden I heard a very faint yelling and screaming. I looked up and saw a man standing up in his boat waving a white T-shirt. At the moment, I didn't know what was going on so I told the wife to hand me my binoculars so I could see him better. When I put the binoculars on the guy I remember my heart instantly started pounding and the hairs on my head stood "straight-up". The wife and I pulled in all the reels as fast as we could, lifted anchor and headed off their way. When we got to them the guy was stripped down naked and had no clothes on. The wife called 911 while his buddy managed to get his shorts on him due to the injured mans request and we loaded him up in our boat and headed for the Marina. He was medevaced out of there and I never saw him or heard from him again. The gamewarden and I then went back out to pull his buddy back in who was left stranded in the boat that wouldn't start. I still wonder how everything turned out for him. This picture doesn't show how bad his wounds really were. They were terribly deep and the worst gash was on his right butt cheek which in the picture you can tell isn't right. Now, this could happen to anybody no matter what size boat you have, but the big kicker is, it was hot that day, there really wasn't very much wind, and another BOATER was out there. Windy days can turn DANGEROUS in a hurry escpecially if your by yourself, in a little boat, its cold outside and the water temps are in the mid 40's. When one goes out alone on those kind of days everything should be in order. I myself even had somethng bad happen to me not too long ago and have started making some changes as well. If you do decide to go out on a cold windy day by yourself make sure 1.) you have your lifejacket on 2.) Your boat motor is running really good 3.) your trolling motor is running really good and can maneuver your boat well in windy conditions(which is a very important backup safety tool that has saved my butt numerous times) 4.) you have a big enough anchor that can hold your boat in the wind & 5.) you have backup clothes in your boat. Anyways... have a good one bud and like I said " I think you made a great choice and good luck to ya! smile

Excellent advice, Rick. Let's hope some of the smaller boat operators read that. I might mention that I continue to see jon boats overloaded all months of the year. Folks don't seem to pay attention to the weight limits each watercraft has.

Sometimes you just have to be smart enough to live to fish another day.
