I had a sprinkler system installed in the yard and flower beds. The lizards?? or what ever they are have started showing up only a night and are on the walls, screens and patio furniture.

Anyone know what they are called??

Those are Geckos. Not sure what kind, but they look just like the ones we have on our house. Cool little creatures, and eat a lot of bugs. Yes, they're reptiles, and lizards, but more specifically, Geckos, which are lizards that as you've noticed, can walk on walls, windows and so on. They're native I think. Fairly common in some parts of Texas.

I believe that they are Meditterain Geckos, they will help control bugs in a house, providing the cats don't catch the little critters first.

They are geckos. Growing up in Hawaii I was told they were good luck. The Captain on the boat I deck handed for kept one in the boat in a terrarium.

Thanks everybody,

I guess I will go with the consensus. Yes they do eat bugs off the screens. I just did not know what they are. Also they change colors.

Thanks for all the replies. banana banana

Yeah, lots of Geckos have the capacity to change colors to some extent, just like Anoles, which can also climb walls and windows, and chameleons. But that type of Gecko seems to be the most common here, at least in my part of the state.

Ok Guys, I may not know as much as I thinkl I do
about snakes, but lizards....
Those are Mediterranean geckos. very prevalent
from Houston north to about Dallas. It has been
theorized by TPW that these dudes came over on a ship or ten in 50's-60's. nonetheless, they are now as indiginous to Tx. as the feral pig.
I have captured/raised probably 20 of these dudes since I moved to Tx. great pets. best way to keep them:
Leave 'em where they're at; you would not beleive how many bugs, spiders and roaches thes guys will eat. My wife even let me release five of them in our old rent house! result: no bugs
no cobwebs, etc.
In the spring you will usually find them aroud lamps, eating bugs, and making wierd noises
(male territory stuff).
They max out @ about 4", tail included.
the juveniles are about 1" and are almost clear.
Did I mention I'm a gecko freak?
And yes, I bought the insurance! LOL!
Brian
