This should be another great tournament!!! The last few years there has been right around 20 teams!!!! The fishing should be awesome with lots of fish caught. The great news is the stripers are on the come back!!! We have caught more stripers over 10 lbs this year than the previous 3 yrs combined. It appears that they are recovering from the 2011 devestating drought and record heat. The hybrid population is very healthy with your average fish weighing 5 lbs or so. Somebody this year is going to catch a 10+ lb hybrid this year. I hope that someone is me or Riley!!! If you have never fished a TSA this is a great lake to start on lots of fish and lots of room.

My gf and I should be at this tournament. I am not new to striper fishing, but this will be my first time to fish the lake. I have fished with randy wood since I was crawling, but this is the first year to actually captain my own fishing boat and have to worry about finding the fish. Hopefully we will have a little luck in the boat. We are looking forward to meeting everyone.

Is there a boat ramp in the water there? All the ramps I've ever launched at are dry.

Just a little FYI. There is a new bait shop that opened on the South end of the LAke on HWY 29... Bucks Bait. They are selling Jumbos for 3.75 per Dozen. Thomas Baits sells them for $10.00lb with a 3lb minimum. 3lbs gives you about 90-100 baits. Catching shad on Buchanan usually isn't tough. Yellowtails on the south end and Gizzards on the north. With the warming weather predicted over the next few weeks we should see the Gizzards moving shallow and the threads running the bank at first light. Hope to see y'all there.

Buch brings back some fun memories. It was my first tournament as captain for Team Stripaholic. February 2006...we joined to learn what we could from all the vets. Team Sea Perch was the 2 time defending Team of the Year. They were on their home lake and someone told us they had not been beat on their home lake. This was back when Randy Wood was still a pup.:) We caught some good fish drifting over some deep water trees. Being our first weigh in we were all geeked up and Randy walks by looking in our bucket and says..."Those look like a couple winners" We had no idea if we would even place and Randy was right. Our first win. Always liked fishing Buch. It fished similar to Tawakoni and we usually got lucky there. They only had striper back then so I bet the hybs that are in there now have changed things up a little. We would stay at Alexanders boat dock where bait was easy then go give the Lockes a hard time across the cove. Good times!

Trent I think 2006 was the first year LBCC stocked hybrids. 2007 we had the summer floods and most got washed down stream. 2008 was in my opinion we got the first real stocking of hybrids. 2011 drought devestaded the stripers but the hybrids have flourished. Fast forward to today. The hydrids are healthy with some mature toads in the mix and the stripers are making a comeback. Buchanan in the coming years is going to become a trophy hybrid lake and hopefully a trophy striper lake like it was in the late 80's and 90's and early 2000's.

Hope it does BrandoA. It's got the deep water to support them.

Trent even at 32ft low we still got water depths of 80ft down by the dam. For whatever reason 2011 killed a bunch of our big fish .
