Yeah, that's a big 'un alright!

Speaking of bears, I heard on the news last nite that Grizzlies were taken off the endangered species list at Yellowstone or Yosemite, or something. "Conservationists" are already mobilizing to block even any proposal of a bear hunting season.

Nice bear...........looks so peaceful, sleeping there and all, wouldn't hurt a fly eek
That opens up a couple good miles for the fly fishermen next spring

Well, now that is a great looking animal, I bet it looked even better before the guy with the large caliber weapon spotted him from 700 yrds out while hiding behind a rock?

It won't matter at all if the grizzly is taken off of the endangered species list in Yosemite. They have been extinct for quite some time in California. Likewise, taking the grizzly off of the endangered species list in Washington, Oregon, Utah, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois and other states that no longer have grizzlies will have little impact on the animal.

Rotten conservationists wanting to promote the protection of animals that hardly exist anymore.

There is lady at my dentist office in Richardson that grew up in the mountains (I believe some where in Colorado) and they hunted black bear. I asked the same question, what do you do with a bear after you kill it. She indicated that you eat it (I always wanted to know the answer to that question). She indicated that it contains a lot of fat (I imagine it is like a big blue catfish...only meaner smile ).

At least they don't waste it like crow hunters, although I know a lot of people that eat crow (figuratively speaking smile ).

Grizzlies hardly exist anymore??? Wow. You'd have a really hard time convincing anyone in Canada, Alaska, and around Yellowstone of that. Their numbers have been rebounding for years. Let us not forget that where predators and man coexist in sufficient numbers, one of them will hunt the other. I prefer to be on the right side of that whole interaction.

Prime example is mountain lions in California. Lion hunting was banned there a number of years ago, and lion attacks have steadily increased from that point. From a predator's point of view, you're either something to be feared, or something that's pretty hairless (well, most of us anyway;)), hornless and tastes pretty darn good. I would rather be feared, wouldn't you?

And citing California policies (no matter how brief) in supporting any argument is about as foolish as you can get. Remember, that when 2 years ago a mother of 2 was killed by a mountain lion while jogging in California, those nutbars out there raised more money for the care of the CUBS OF THE LION (which was hunted down and dispatched by wildlife officers) than for the HUMAN family that lost the mother. That, friends, is nucking futs. Plus, if you live in San Francisco, you can't even own a gun anymore. So, in conclusion, don't ever bring up California in the context of good government policy, especially as it regards wildlife management.

Hunting bears is, I'm sure, a thrilling experience. There is nothing morally wrong with it, and people pay good money to do it. It gives people employment opportunities, helps local economies, and let's people with enough money blow off some steam. What's the harm in that? Bear hunting is tightly regulated, and, as mentioned earlier, grizzly bear numbers have been increasing steadily for years over virtually all of their current habitat. They are even expanding back into areas that have been devoid of the species for decades. Bears, like any other animal (especially since they have no natural predators and the capacity to kill human beings), must be managed, and that (hopefully) will always involve hunting.

Don't knock on the bear hunters...they're shooting something that could/would eat you if given the chance.

This is/was a Kodiak bear. My friend has told me her brother is a native Alaskan fireman (full time), fire jumper when needed and bush pilot so he's one pretty tough hombre who doesn't need a guide to tell him where this beast has been hiding. And this supposedly is highly regulated there and he was lucky enough to draw a permit to hunt one. So he hunts cuz he can and who knows why Alaska even allows it. Not much unlike us chasing Bambi's around here. I just thought it was a pretty impressive pic that ya'll might enjoy.

Yea, I agree, pointing California out for anything other than lunacy is kinduv silly.

Ever eat bear meat? We did back in 1986 in camp while muskie fishing Eagle Lake, Ontario. The third night we were there, bear hunters came over and asked what we were eating every night. We told them "walleye" and they asked if we'd like to swap some walleye for some bear meat (backstrap). It is real coarse and greasy and tastes a lot like pork.

If you really think about it all a bear is is a pig in a fur coat....
