So most likely by the end of summer Medina will be completely dry and Choke will be down 35', amazing.

It's a shame to see that lake go. I've had lots of good memories made on that lake. Most of which with a shotgun in hand. My brother and I would go get a cabin on the lake every year during christmas break. Duck hunt in the mornings and run jugs in the afternoon. The best day was killing a limit of duck then going and catching a few for dinner.
Hopefully when it does come back I'll have the chance to spend a few more weekends out there. It's a very unique lake. Lots of fun.

So most likely by the end of summer Medina will be completely dry and Choke will be down 35', amazing. And in a couple months we'll get to watch all the towns on the Mississipi get flooded from the spring thaw up north from such and extreme winter. All that water we could use will be going to waste and reaking havoc. That will make it even sadder...

I'm afraid having our lakes in poor shape is going to be pretty common. Think about it! The lakes are not any bigger than they were 20 years ago and longer, but the populations and the demand has probably grown by no telling how great. We live in an area where rainfall isn't a given from year to year. The lakes fill up and they get drawn down as soon as the rains taper off or stop all together, and the lakes end up dropping faster with the higher demand. I'm old enough to remember when we would go through dry spells and the lakes seemed to always hold their own until the next rains came. It's all because there are just more folks now, and the water supply hasn't gotten larger. Also everyone wants more lakes so we can have more water, but nobody wants them in "THEIR" backyard because land has to be taken that has been in families for generations. Mathis or lake Corpus Christi was all but a mud hole last year and Choke was already low. Rains came and flowed into the Nueces and filled lake CC, but Choke caught no water at all in the Frio. Now the only thing that will keep both lakes from ending up mud holes again is more rain, since those folks using it aren't going to move any time soon.

I remember some talk years back about a possible pipeline that would feed the flooding water from either the Frio our Nueces to whichever lake needed the water. There have been many times the Nueces has flooded and the excess water has just gone to the bay. I guess its just a pipe dream though.
