I like to spend around $100 on a rod and have tried a lot of rods in that price range. My opinion is to get a Falcon Bucoo medium heavy fast action.

Tfo make great durable rods only complaint is they are heavier than most of my rods. I would suggest you looking at the Duckett rods really lightweight and durable.

Another option would be to try to buy a used rod from someone on the forum. Just be patient and keep checking the classifieds section on here and I bet within a week you could find a good used rod in your price range. Just a thought

My vote is for the 13 Fishing Omen Black. It's all a matter of personal preference, but the light weight and sensitivity have sold me. I have replaced 4 of many of the rods mentioned here with the Omen & as I sell an older one, I will replace it with the Omen.

I use the Falcon cara head turner to worm fish and love it. Everyone as always starts mentioning all there favorite rods that are twice or more the mans "$65-$85 and $100 really pushing it" range. Sir, go to Acadamy and buy an All Star rod. $49.00-$89.00 for their different series rods. Of these the "Classic" series for $49.99 is well within your price and are an excellent rod for the money. Go get one and a (small)handfull of lures and still be under budget. ^^^^^^^^^This I would also take a look at the Falcon HD series. I believe they run $69.99. I have 2 and love them.

I have fallen in love with the omen by 13 fishing. It is at the higher end at $99.00 it does have micro guides, but is an awesome rod for the money. My .02

Thanks for all the responses! I really appreciate the first-hand info. The gear geek in me would love to have the higher end rods, but for now I want to get started fishing plastics (never really done much) and build my skills. I plan on putting together a new cranking set-up later this spring. Please keep em coming as I do value the info.

I have a Dobyns Savvy SS733C that I'd sell you. It is in excellent condition (only used about a half dozen times)...pm me if you are interested, it is within your budget.
