It always feels good to catch that first fish on your new tackle. Here's my 7 year old breaking in her new Loomis/Shimano combo...it's a 782IMX rod and a Stradic 1000 reel. She outgrew her Cinderella rig and wanted the same rod and reel daddy was using. Maybe when she turns 10 she can handle a GLX and Stella but for now I'm sure this will do just fine!

Funny sidenote...we had just made it to the pond behind my house and after her first fish here are the details of our conversation:

Her: Daddy, I need to go #2 really bad!

Me: Can you hold it for a few more casts?

Her: I've been holding it!

Me: If I take you home it will be too dark after you are done for us to come back out. We can keep fishing for a few more minutes or you can go home and use the bathroom, your choice sweetie.

Her: Can I just go behind the trees?

That nearly brought a tear to my eye! Since I didnt have any tp in my tackle bag I ended up taking her home, lol.

Now that I look at the second pic I guess she really needed to go!

Airfob,

I know what pond you were fishing!!! And actually there is one of above that one that has some much bigger fish in it! I would love to go fish it with you sometime! Maybe I will see you out there soon! I havent been out there in about a month I guess. Last time I went the bite was pretty tough but I have caught some fish that easily went over four pounds from the top pond. Blast me an email at fishntoph@yahoo.com when you want to go fish it! I would love to go catch some fish with a fellow TFFer. If I don't see ya at the pond then drop by Sportsmans Warehouse and I will see you in the fishing dept! Congrats for raising a kiddo that can catch fish and on plastics no less! Way to go!

Thanks for the comments guys, taking my daughter fishing is my favorite thing to do!

When I asked her the other day what she wanted to be when she grew up her answers were 1) a teacher followed by 2) a professional fisherwoman. I jokingly told her if she wanted to be either one that she'd better find a man that made lots of money and pays for everything...she then responded with "You mean like mommy did?" LOL, gotta love those kids!

Fish N Toph, I think I have seen you out there before. I met Greg and his son a while back fishing that pond and he told me he pulled a 7 lber out! I know there are quality fish in there as I have pulled a few 3s and a 4 out of there this summer. Its just so small that I think all the fish have been caught and have lockjaw right now, trying to stay away from it for a few months until Spring rolls around!

Fishbrain, for a 7 year old she is pretty serious about her fishing and only throws plastics now so it was Loomis all the way baby!

airfob,

Yeah those fish have been a little tough but man was the frog bite good early this summer!!! Had a nice 4+ come up and kill it from out of 7ft of water it was awesome! Well, thats great that you met Greg, you are getting to know the whole SW crew! Well hopefully I will see you out there soon! Until then, tight lines!

That is awesome. My 3 year old son loves to fish too. You've given your daughter something that will last a lifetime.
