It is not fake. I grew up with the Game Warden in the picture. His Dad showed my family members several other pictures of the gator back where I grew up.

Oldgringo, My in-laws live in Columbia Lakes and when I visit I rent the boats and fish those lakes. There are some gators cruising that hydrilla out there that make a 10' john boat feel kinda small, I trolled after one once and eventually it stopped and turned around snout to bow, I took the hint and went the other way.

This one was from Florida. This is the info I have on the photo.
This was found between Orlando and Titusville, near a house. How would you like to meet this fella in the dark? Never let it be said that we don't grow them big in Florida.
Game wardens were forced to shoot the alligator- guess he wouldn't cooperate...
Anita and Charlie Rogers could hear the bellowing in the night.
Their neighbors had been telling them that they had seen a mammoth alligator in the waterway that runs behind their house, but they dismissed the stories as exaggerations.
"I didn't believe it," Charles Rogers said. Friday they realized the stories were, if anything, understated. Florida Parks and Wildlife game wardens had to shoot the beast Joe Goff, 6'5" tall, a game warden with the Florida Parks and Wildlife Department, walks past a 23-foot, 1-inch alligator that he shot and killed in their back yard.

I took the picture, here is the real story. The gator was found on April 1st by two Alabama hog hunters, Jim and Doug Wise, while hunting in Boggy Creek. They claim to have taken it away from a Bigfoot, which had came down on a UFO from the crab nebula and was wearing a game warden uniform. Doug also claims to have taked the uniform away as well. For other truly true stories, see this web site, http://www.savelivesinmay.com/

This animal was trapped in the early 1900's in the State of Louisiana. Most wild alligators do not get above 13 feet in length, and may weigh 600 pounds or more. Can't believe anything you see on the internet these days!

If it is dead and real why is the tail bent, by itself, without the ground holding it up? If it was real wouldn't it be dangling straight down to the ground?
