So I fished with Mr. Pack back in January and used one of his rods... he had weight on the end of the handle and made it really comfortable to fish a jig. How many of you guys do this and if you do it what are you using for weight?

I have one rod that came with brass "coins" that go under the rubber grip, 25c pieces will work under your grip also.

I went to local hardware store and got heavy duty rubber chair tip protectors. Depending on rod i would add quarters inside cap. They come in different sizes and styles.Really does make a big change in feel. ace hardware

I had all of mine balanced at one time. Fished like that for a couple years. I've went back to trying to have everything as light as possible and I feel like I'm more efficient this way.

I get the balancing kits from BPS or Cabelas and balance all my jig or soft plastics rods, don't do it with my cranking rods though. It does make the overall rod weight heavier but I don't notice it at all and it sure makes the rod feel much more sensitive. The kits come with flat lead weights and I use quarters to fine tune the amount of weight needed to perfect the rod balance.

Not sure what brand of rods you are using but look around as a couple of brands balance EXTREMELY well as is with no weights. I am talking a noted difference in it than other brands.

I had an old flipp'n stick that I bought the bass pro balancing kit for and it helped a lot cause the rod was heavy forward because the thickness of graphite used to make it a heavy action flipp'n stick...using these weighted systems does change the balance for the better but also makes the rig heavier which will cause more fatigue and tendon strain at the end of the day if your not in "fishing shape"...LOL...that's my two cents.
