people catch them from the bank all the time at both lakes. use a surf type rod and cast out a long ways w/ perch, shad, goldfish, tilapia or crawfish (either live or cut) and hang on.

On weekends there's usually someone at the intersection just north of the park selling crawfish. The park office also sells them. Other than crawfish, we use cast nets to catch shad, perch, or tilapia...all of which work. Bank fishing at Braunig might be best at "dead tree point." But there'll be a crowd.

just let the bait sit there. i would imagine they would get up in the grass like saltwater fish, but never seen them do it. i have seen them right in the rocks by the hundreds w/ tails sticking out, but they won't hit anything even if you hit them in the head (i guess they have other things on their minds!)
usually i start off the day trolling, if that dont work i fish live or fresh cut tilapia or perch.
best trolling baits i have found are a mann's stretch 12, a regular size hellbender (both of these - red head/white body...and many teeth marks!) but the one they absolutely kill is a lure called a big zip. it's a large blade lure that vibrates when you troll it. i think the large one's are out of production, but i got some other lure at cabelas that looks similar but have not tried them.
if fishing bait and your rods are close together - god chance all will be hit at about the same time. these fish usually travel in large schools and if you have 4 rods out, you may well have 4 screaming drags at once (ask me how i know this).
anyone catch any hybrids at braunig lately? we used to leave the big ones biting, but after that fish kill in july 2000 (i think it was) i ain't caught one since!

sounds great, thanks for the advice guys!!!!! have you have more luck early in the morning, or in the evening? i guess u can't get in until 6 am right? i think i will head to calaveras saturday...i usually fish reds in the marsh with spoons, but it seems like that won't work from the bank...i will get whatever i can at the bait shop there and see how things go...when i get there, is it best to just walk around and find a spot, designated spots, or what? thanks so much guys!!! also, if any of you ever need a fishing partner...i'm always up for it...bank or boat, doesn't matter to me...

JMK We do Redfish trips at Tradinghouse and Fairfield and do very well. No trolling. If you want some hands on instruction give us a call at 817-306-0055. Caught and released several state freshwater records last year.

Freshwater redfish dont get as big as the saltwater ones do but they are still great to eat! I have fished in some power plant lakes before that hold these freshwater redfish. I think they taste just dandy.

Freshwater redfish dont get as big as the saltwater fish but they're still good eatin i think. I go to power plant lakes and fish for reds every once in a while and i find that once you learn how to catch em that its pretty easy to locate and catch these freshwater redfish.
