Currently i"d focus on what we call Big Uglies... Large black drum. Use half a crab and fish any of the major channels into the bays, or the shelf next to the channel... chance of catching a 50lber.
Best chance for bull red is fall Sept - Nov. There are a few around the rest of the year, but that is best chance.

Yep, your chances are better during the bull red run in the fall.

@sharkslaya1, I just went out this weekend and pulled in 2 black drum both over 30 lbs. and 5 bull reds all over 40". All caught on dead jumbo shrimp and crab chunks. Local bait shops have also told me that it's the time for big drum big reds and big trout.. In other words they're running, so if you are in search of big fish, I suggest you go fishing soon haha

We fished a shark tournament this past weekend and everyone was catching monster reds, we were yakking out cut/whole whiting and catching them on that, caught a 39.5" and a 42.5"

I too would target Red fish. My experience has been with some of the larger black drums say over 12 pounds seem to have worms, just my thought after seeing this 2 or 3 times. However, the smaller black drums around 5 to 6 pounds can be as tasty as some reds.

im really going after the bull drum for the fight, not really big on keeping them especially since the big reds are the breeders. If im goin fishing for meat I will just catch a basket full of sand trout, people call them trash fish but it think they are delicious!

Yeah Gulf Trout are good too, in louisiana we called them "white trout" caught them in the gulf, offshore.... I don't think they are the same fish as what we call sand trout in Texas though.... They definitely help fill the cooler too!!!!
