Wanted to start a new thread to discuss the sandie run on the Angelina River above Big Sam.

It appears the weather is going to stay cool for a bit.... while the river continues to drop.

Anybody have any luck at the normal spots: Kingtown, Tram or Shawnee Bottom?

We plan on heading up 03/11/14 with the Yaks and give it a go!!

Not looking for any new tricks just wanted to get a discussion going.

went to the tram couple weeks ago on a warm day. they were just getting up to the tram boat ramp. nobody was catching but one or two here and there above the boatramp. everyone was limiting out down river tho. not sure how far. my motor is a 71 that works sometimes and sometimes it dont,so i went up river. should be on now all over the place with the warm snap we had.
good luck hope this helps.

never claimed i knew what i was doin.... just that i look cool doin it!

Thanks! Love going back down to those waters and slaying the sandies.

BTW, we are just down there for sport.

We gladly hand over the bounty to those who are looking for table fare.

I haven't been down there yet this year, but if we can get a few days of nice warmer weather, they should be upriver almost everywhere. A trip to Tram Road should tell you if it's time. That's one of my all time favorite fishin holes for Feb/Mar.

Went twice last week at the tram in the yak. Absolutely murdered them caught over 100 both days on chartreuse roadrunners, 90% males, and considerably larger than last year. Only went down stream and not that far, only kept a few for dinner since TPWD came out with a report last month saying don't eat a fish out of Rayburn since they're full of toxins.

Thanks for the update TxShiner.

I think we will start at the Tram and work both up and down river.

I bet the females were just loaded with eggs.

They shouldn't be spawning just yet.....

I've been fishing out of King town for the last 3 years and done very well. Heard stories about the tram but I'm not sure how to get there, can someone PM me directions from the Jasper area please. I plan on taking my boys up there next week during spring break. If I cant get a bee line on the tram we will just put in at king town again. Thanks

Damn guy's, this thread died pretty quick. If you don't want to tell me how to get to the Tram that's fine but at least help keep some of us updated on the run!

Nothing mentioned here about white bass. Maybe this is out of date.

Any clue how long of a boat ride it would be from King town to the Tram area. From King town we usually run 30 to 40 minutes up river before we start fishing. Last year we got to a point where the river choked down a lot and I couldn't find the channel due to the high water. I will probably be up there with my boys on Wednesday, Thurs thru Sat we will be LMB fishing on Big Sam.

The Tram Rd is a County Road that turns South off of Saints Rest Road about half way between Shawnee Landing and Kingtown. I don't remember the CoR # and I tried to find it on Google Earth but wasn't that lucky. It is a good place for SandBass as you don't have to go over a quarter mile in the boat. I usually fish within sight of the ramp,,,or whatever. Calling it a ramp is a misnomer. I used to fish just 100 yards N of the put-in and catch all of the Sandies I wanted to clean.

I moved recently to Tyler and am missing all of my maps.
