I've been waiting to introduce myself until I had actually caught a fish from a kayak...it's been a long wait...

I sold my bass boat last October and bought a kayak because I wanted to downsize and simplify my fishing.

After a few trips to learn how to stay upright, I started trying to fish from it. Then winter got here. And never left.

Finally, last Saturday, we got a little break in the weather so I went to Grapevine to see if I could scare something up. My first fish from the kayak was this white bass and it was a nice one! Caught a couple of undersized ones after that. What a relief to end the (skunk) streak!

Caught it in about 25' of water out in the main lake a little west of Twin Coves. The fish were in the deep water near a hump that came up to about 14'. I was using a small chrome/blue Rat-L-Trap and kind of jigging it(long cast, counting it down to the bottom, rip it up about 6' and letting it drop again).

Craig

Hey, Bigdoon817,

Have you ever gotten any use from that front rod holder?

Every time I've tried to put a rod in it, I've felt like I was going to turtle...

I live just a mile north of Grapevine so it's easy for me to get there...

When I was looking at kayaks, I looked hard at the WS Rides especially the 135 but then this Cuda popped up on Craigslist (I'm pretty sure the guy I bought it from (Dan?) is a member of this forum).

I like the Cuda pretty well. It's not as stable for me as it looks for the Jackson guys in their YouTube videos. I suspect that's because I'm...hmmm, how to say this...maybe not quite as svelte as they are. When the water warms up and I don't mind going swimming as much, I might try standing up to fish in it...
