I fish shallow and structure. I consider the side scan more of open water, deep water fishing. I think the structure scan would give me enough info to see what I want to fish. I currently just have small sonar units...... 4x Pro. please correct me if I am wrong

if you're just looking for a Single unit that does 2D/Downscan/ and GPS mapping. I'd say the Elite 7 HDI Combo.
I'm sure several board sponsors including David at SHUT Up N fish can help you out.

Lower cost option: As others have suggested, the Elite 7 HDI.
High end option: HDS 9 Touch with HDI transducer. Provides broadband and downscan but no side scan. Enables options such as sidescan later, touch control, compatibility with a camera, better networkability.
