Yes, they fight really hard. They are however very easy to catch in the Red River.

I caught some around 50 pounds! It was a blast!

Wow that takes a whole lot of skill and shows you are a true sportsman being able to snag a fish. Keep that **** in Mississippi or wherever you do it.

Sorry to have to correct your correction, but according to the TPWD website, it IS illegal to CATCH a paddlefish. Very intersting fish with info at http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/wild/species/pad/ MIK Originally posted by catfishsalsa: [QB] have to make a correction here...it's not illegal to catch a paddlefish, but it is illegal to keep one in Texas.

Hey Adkim, Often people will snag for bait when they dont have a cast net or when the bait doesnt bite hooks, like Shad. Or when there are no bait shops around. I may have snagged a shad or two... Long long time ago, Before anyone burrs up at me for saying that; I know the rules. Here they are, scroll down to "pole and line", look at item number two.. I was just answering the question of why would anyone snag. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/annual/fish/legal_devices/

Hold your damn horses fishonfire, i am a proud texan, i am in mississippi cause the military put me here, and having said that, there is a snagging season, i was snagging during that season. So what the hell are you Bitching bout. Before i ever went snaging all i did was bass fish and i still do. And if yall wanna be damn tree huggers bout this snagging $@#% then i will be happy to let you know that i threw everyone of them back.
And if you still wanna hug somemore trees then hug away, but until then i will keep doing whats legal, oh and if yall have a problem with a native texan, who loves texas, showing off or simply asking bout certain fish from mississippi on this site then everyone of you can shoot me an email telling me how you feel, until then go hugs some trees.

Paddlefish is very good eating. As I recall nice firm white meat, maybe a bit like shark.

I don't care if you are from Texas or NY I just think that snagging fish is wrong. You do not know what you are going to snag. Snagging a paddle fish for example is a protected fish that will most likely end up dead from the resulting injury. Throwing them back is kind of pointless after you snag them with a giant hook. There is no sport involved in this kind of fishing. As for being a tree hugger, if knowing that snagging random fish with a giant hook is ignorant and lacks any sportsmanship makes me a tree hugger then I guess that is what I am. Congratulations on being from Texas and being a bass fisherman. I heard fishing with dynamite is very rewarding alsoyou might want to check into that.

Like SA_Angler said, Paddlefish are "unlawful" to catch in Texas. Basically it's Illegal to fish or "target" them here. With snagging, you not really targeting any specific type of fish. Probably why you see a lot of Oklahoma fish guide services boasting paddlefish. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/wild/species/pad/

the part that is ignorant is you for not seeing it from another perspective, that leaves you pretty damn mindless and a one way track of mind, you dont know nor understand where i am fishing at, where litterally thousands of gar swim, and to be honest thats what i was after, but you want to have a one way track mind bout this and be the ignorant one then go ahead, i can give you a damn # to the P.E.T.A group and yall go hug some damn tress with your mindless ***.

Paddlefish are the oldest surviving animal species in North America. Fossil records indicate that it is older than dinosaurs (300 million years).
