I recently moved back to Texas and have been away for 20+ years finally getting the old man and little brother out to fish FORK. I live down in South Texas and am learning these water pretty good but they both live up in Kilgore and Im dying to take them to FORK. I need some help on what their biting and water depths I am scouring the reports online and recent tournaments but very tight lipped about everything. We are a family just trying to enjoying a long needed trip to the lake. I want to put the old man and little bro on some quality fish. My little brother is fairly new to the bass world and is just about to go full blown nuts over it like I did years ago. We just need that one GOOD trip and I'll have a partner for the rest of my life. Dad loves to bass fish but you can find him and my uncle at Murval most Friday's loading up on crappie and catfish in his Tracker.

Thanks alot for your help guys.
God Bless

Murval has some big fish in it. The heaviest stringer I have ever seen personally came from there. It weighed 48#

You can't go wrong with starting in the back of the creeks and working your way out with a square-bill.

when are you planning on coming to fork? right now we have about 1" of ice on the ground and it is 19. this runoff will cool the lake back down on top of our cold temps, I am gonna guess water temp will be in the upper 40's again come wed or thur.
timing right now makes a huge difference in gettin bit.

Lots of recent reports from guides if you want to get some reliable info. There are tournaments on Fork from now through the end of summer almost every weekend, so info won't be an easier to come by as time goes by.

Your best bet out there right now is going to be ponying up the money for one of the guides. If you go by yourself and you've got 3 baits in the water around spawning flats and creek channels in 10' of water or less, you'll figure out the pattern eventually. But you'll have a much better shot with someone who's been on the water every day.

I agree that a guide is the fastest way to get on fish, but if your budget doesn't allow that option watch the weather. It really depends on when you are looking to make the trip and what the weather has been doing leading up to that time. Once we get past this cold front the fish should be moving shallow and there will some available through end of April. May the deeper patterns start to kick in. PM me before you come and I might have more up to date info.

there's been good quality fish being caught really shallow for a while now on fork, despite the cold weather.

I have not been there this year, as I too now live in South Texas but I grew up on Fork. In March and April you can not go wrong fishing Birch Creek. Start somewhere around the old underwater road bed that is on every map and work under the bridge going further back into Birch. The bass in Birch don't know what deep water is so fish everything from 1' to 12' of water Birch has it all grass, wood, ledges, humps, ect...

Baits for this time of year:

Trap in red craw
T-Rigged or C-Rigged baby brush hog in watermelon red
T-Rigged 8" worm in bluefleck
1.5 sized squarebill in some sort of shad pattern
Tandem spinner bait in chart/white
