This is embarrassing...... Plain and simple my ability to accurately place a bait in a tight spot sucks. I watch videos, practice, and seem to not get much better. Been fishing for years. Is it rod and line make big difference for pin point accuracy when needed? Am I too close? I have top notch equipment. Anyone know a resource I can find? I am coordinated as all getup, scratch bowler, former NCAA/Pro golfer can throw darts with the best ( have done well in national events, so I do have hand eye coordination. If fish are holding tight I'm screwed.

take a coffee can a 2 chairs and a broom.... place the broom on the chairs to simulate a branch hanging over the waterline.... place the can about 10 feet away and stand on the opposite side of the broom from the can. pitch under the broom handle and hit the can
when you can put the jig in 10 times in a row move the can 5 feet more ...
rinse and repeat until you can consistently hit the can.
this will improve your accuracy a lot.

Try a shorter rod for better accuracy if you are casting not pitching.Six foot.My best rod for accuracy is a 5.5.

Good suggestion. I have the SAME problem and soon as the dang weather permits, will put in to practice!! thanks Shipmate!!! take a coffee can a 2 chairs and a broom.... place the broom on the chairs to simulate a branch hanging over the waterline.... place the can about 10 feet away and stand on the opposite side of the broom from the can. pitch under the broom handle and hit the can

I've taught a lot of folks to pitch back-in-the-day. The biggest mistake that I've seen with frustrated newbies is practicing from ground level. Unless you plan on bank fishing...you're doin it wrong. Elevate yourself, somehow, to boat deck level. 20 feet away (that's simulates about 18' compensating for the boat gunnel) place a 2 x 4 between 2 building blocks....about 18" off the ground. Practice with a 3/16 t-rigged 6" worm. (the heavier stuff is easy after you master the light stuff) Practice pitching for distance under that 2 x 4. After you can do that repeatedly, without backlashes, with different rods and line sizes, move on to placing a small target about 5-6' beyond the 2 x 4. After a few sessions, you'll be better than 90% of folks out there. Good luck. Edit: The reason for the 2 x 4 is two-fold. It teaches you confidence and accuracy in getting lures up under branches, boatdocks, etc. and....most importantly, it trains you to keep the lure's "flight" very close to the water.

The easiest way to learn how to "pitch" a jig is to stand on your boat and practice pitching into a water bucket,,,,then a coffee can,,,,,then a drinking cup.
The easiest way to cast accurately is start with a 5.5ft pole and a decent reel. Again, stand on your boat bow and learn how to cast without hitting your console, learn how to cast with the bow pointed in both directions, you'll definitely see a difference. Learn how to cast overhand, side arm and an underhanded flip cast. When you learn how to do all that with a 5.5ft rod, move to whatever you are going to fish with whatever reel you are going to use most of the time.

bottom line is....practice...practice....practice...I take a friend fishing with me sometimes...he's not a good fisherman...can't cast...when he does...it's up in the trees...then he gets mad and sits in the back of the boat and sulks....it just ruins my day....don't ruin your day or others....practice...the suggestions of elevating and pitching into coffee cans is the best way of doing it....remember to loosen the brakes on your reel if possible...you'll get a little better distance...hope this helps..

Yeah I used to be way worse at casting than I am now, now I can cast parallel to a marina when I would have always get it hung around the stuff. Take snake eyes advice, I know him and this is the exact same thing he told me. It improved my bad casting!

Make sure you have a rod with a little tip and good smooth casting line. Use allot of wrist and elbow and shoulder and a little body English. And if you are as coordinated as you say you are it should be second nature. IF, you keep tension out of it. You know how being tensed up will ruin any part of your golf game, it will also ruin your pitching, flipping and casting. Relax.

Focusing on where you want to put the bait is key! Some people who have similar problems as you are staring at the bait while they throw it...that's kind of like staring at the hood of your car while driving...your gonna wreck! Your brain cannot process with your focus switching between the bait and the spot. You may get lucky now and then, but thats it.
Practicing like the posters up top suggested, while focusing on the correct object will yield improving results.
Good Luck!

Good advice. I will practice. Would be great to hit something besides the trees or the docks...LOL Thanks shipmate!! Focusing on where you want to put the bait is key! There is a gentleman on Youtube called "exbassguide" who has some videos on pitching with spinning rods. He's great....much better than most of the videos on pitching with baitcasting gear. You're gonna put about the same effort into learning how do to it correctly as learning how to do it mediocre. May as well do it right.
