.There's a nice little pond within 5 minutes driving distance of my place here in Houston. It has crystal clear water and a healthy bass population. I go 3-4 times a week to get my bass fishing fix, try new lines/lures/rigs, etc. Well, I couldn't help but notice these groups of massive carp that would cruise the banks and pick up the scraps left over from people feeding the ducks. Well, I just couldn't help myself, so here's the pic. I still love bass fishing, though laugh .

MH action rod with a Curado spooled with 15lb P-Line Fluroclear. Good fight, I must say. Can't imagine how much it weighed, but I wager someone will give me a good estimate.

Great fish! I know you were asking about them in the carp forum, and now I can tell you for certain.

That's a White Amur ( Grass Carp ) not a common carp. A lot of the carp baits mentioned in the thread you posted in the carp forum WON'T work for grass carp, which would explain why you're having trouble. They are usually pretty strict vegetarians, and totally unrelated to the common carp we usually try to catch. That's not to say they won't sometimes take carp bait, especially if they're really hungry, but they don't work anywhere near as well as they do for common carp.

Anyway, great catch!

Holy guacamole med dude! What did u use to catch that monster. I started out carp fishing in 93, man that is fun. There where many time I almost lost my tackle due to some monsters picking up my bait and flying off with my rod and reel.

It's Herman Park right by the Medical Center in the heart of SE Houston. Technically, you have to be older than 65 or younger than 12 to fish ANYWHERE within Houston city limits, so I ignore that aspect of Houston's city ordinances. Great bass fishing there too, if you can catch em. Crystal clear water makes it a challenge. Drop me a line if you want to head out there sometime to pursue either species.
