TPWD reported on facebook that two big bass were caught a couple of days ago with pictures. One weighed 9.41 and the other weighed 11.51 They reported one caught from the pier and the other by the primitive campsites. I would bet there roaming the shallows looking for food and beds.

I keep a paintball marker around for the coons. I use black or brown paintballs.
This is not about just Purtis. Almost every state park I have been in TX has incredibly large numbers of raccoons that have no fear of man. The parks people seem to enjoy it, but in fact it is an aberration. In a natural setting, raccoons won't normally come right up to a person in daylight or in a well lit area.

This might be the weirdest, most pointless post ever. I am not against golf, since I cannot but suspect it keeps armies of the unworthy from discovering fishing

I'm laughing, because this is true. The run things down there. If you're camping, beware of the raccoons, they run in packs and steal, eat, or tear up anything they can eat. Don't leave anything in your tent. If you leave your cooler outside you almost need a chain and lock, but I think they can pick locks.
like the man says...if you're swimming in the ocean and get bitten by a shark, its not a shark attack. You're in THEIR neighborhood. If you're at home in your shower, turn around and a shark is in there with you...THAT'S a shark attack

I wasn't sure how to address the park Ranger out there.

Yeah I have had my battle with the coons out there one time I was brave enough to sleep in my camping hammock, won't be doing that this time. 5:00 can't get here fast enough! Weather looks good hopefully I can post a full report with a bunch of bucket mouths in it.

I was sitting next to the campfire one night eating oreo cookies from a bowl on my lap. Next thing I know I felt a tug and a racoon had one of my oreo cookies. I jumped like I had been shot. Never heard or seen him. During the commotion he ran into the woods. Well, he must have told his buddies that I had oreo cookies and they were good. Within 5 minutes there were so many coons around the campsite I had to go inside the trailer.

I told the Rangers at the front office they should be selling coon skin caps there to generate income for the park.

I sleep in the truck at Purtis. No more tents. They'll get in with you. They'll take salty soft plastics too. Creepy things and hunt in packs. One distracts you while the rest rob you blind. Not amateurs for sure.

LOL if its a cooler with beers, the chain might look like bolt cutters were used. actually, those racoons have very sharp teeth. LOL

Purtis is awesome. Pick apart all the timber with a brush hog, or go out deeper with a c rig. Spinnerbaits and square bills too. Coons are everywhere. Lock up! Have fun!
