I was able to snag a bass buddy over the winter for a steal of a price. It is register and all that stuff but I need to know what else is required to be able to use it on Texas lakes. I know I have to have life jackets and I think I have to have some sort of a sound device. I will only be using it during the day so I will not need any lights. I will not be out in large open water areas just in coves and the smaller lakes that have state parks.
It there any thing else I will need on board? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Congrats on snagging the boat--
Best advice I think I can give is go to the TP&W website and look at the requirements there. Someone with good intentions could leave something out and you know what that could mean.
Enjoy!

HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!

If you have a motor you need a registration sticker. Bunch of other stuff on TPWD site, flashlight/boat lights, whistle, etc.

If you have it registered and have TX numbers on it you've got most of the battle won. You will need lights if out after sunset or before sunrise like any other vessel. You also will need a sound producing device. Here is what I have on mt boat. With just a little air pressure you make a big sound. http://www.basspro.com/SeaSense-Safety-Blaster-Horn/product/67743/You also might consider an orange kayak flag to increase your visibility to boaters or wear a blaze orange hat. I've been amazed at how close people get before they ever see me. The requirements are here. Read carefully as not everything applies. Most will be dependent on size. But once you put a trolling motor on it, regardless of size, you must have TX numbers to be legal. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/boat/safety/vessel_requirements/

K.D. thanks! I've already got TX numbers just want to fish on some small lakes in East Texas with my 14 year old son. No night fishing or anything light that.

I had a 10' Bass Buster type boat and used to fish Monticello, Cypress Springs, Bob Sandlin, Gilmer, Fork and many other lakes in it. Stick to the major creeks in those lakes and you'll be fine and catch a lot of fish.

Onjly required if boat is 16' or longer.
