Anybody ever fished down there? I'm heading down in a couple of weeks for a family camping trip and plan on taking my kayak. Looks like I'll be fishing for catfish and sand bass. Anybody know if they spawn up river? If so how far? Just checking to see if anybody had any additional info other than what's on the tpwd page.

Fish eat things. I'll put things in the water that fish like to eat. I'll attach these things to a hook, line, rod, and reel. How hard can this be?

I have fished thenavasota that feeds into fort Parker more than the shallow barren lake itself. When you get there, find the ramp to the river located in the back right of the park. Then launch your kayak and head left in the river which heads back into the lake. In that section of the river I have had excellent results catching channel cat on a slip cork rig and cut bait fished along the bank and under overhang trees. Good luck

Fished it years ago and it had lots of channelcat. They started dredging it and we quit going out there.

This.
That stretch of river is excellent for channel cats.

There are some good bass. I seem to catch some short but fat fish as a by product to targeting channel cats when using shad or minnows. Some 7+ pounders every once in a while.

A 1/4oz spinnerbait works well there. You will enjoy that piece of water.
