Not a horny toad. That is a western fence lizzard. Horny toads are more flat and have larger spines on the head.

known around here as fence lizard or spiney lizards. used to catch them by the hundreds as a kid. the males will get a turquoise belly when chasin the cat wink definately not a horny toad.

That is a fence swift, not a horny toad and they are very common in this area. Pick one up and you may get bitten..lol.. They dont hurt but are loads of fun to play with. I havent seen a true horny toad in this area in about 5 years or so but when I was a kid, they were all over!
