Well the Carp Fish In was a great success, with well over 60 fish caught. The average carp seemed to be between 6-8 pounds, though quite a few larger were caught. But the biggest fish of the day all seemed to be buffalo today, so here's a few pictures to tide you over till everyone else chimes in with their own photos.

One of many triples throughout the day!

Nice huh? And later in the afternoon, Tracy landed this beautiful 23 pound 3 oz smallmouth buffalo, which was the largest fish of the day as of the time we left.

Don't know why you can't see them AGC. They're hosted on MyFishingPictures.com which always seem to work fine. Maybe I could post the picture links and you could just click directly to them.

There's the raw links, maybe that will help.

Fish tx, actually most of the fish in those two pics are Smallmouth Buffalo. The light bronze fish with the golden tail in the right side of the top pic is the only carp shown. And yeah, both species can be a little weird looking I guess, but Man, can they fight! Strooooong fish.

Hey Starless,

Tim - Those are weighing slings, I believe. It's sort of a green tarp with handles, that they put the fish in to weigh them so that they don't have to stab their mouth with the scale's hook or anything else like that. Pretty cool, all the guys have their slings pre-weighed and know the weight, so that when they weigh the fish and the sling, they automatically subtract the weight of the sling to get the fish's correct weight. They were something like 2 pounds, 4 ounces, and all the fish were weighed on digital scales for accuracy. They also have green "unhooking" mats which they rest the fish on while taking out the hook. They are padded with air pockets so they are very soft, and if the fish flop around, they don't injure themselves on the hard ground. Pretty cool.

Also as LSC has said, in most carp tournaments fish under 10 pounds simply don't count, at all. Nor do buffalo of any size, though they count for the big fish pot. But the guys in the tournament yesterday were just fishing a "total weight" tournament. All the fish each person caught, carp and buffalo, were weighed and added to their total. Don't know who won or what the winning weight was, because we left about an hour or two before the tourny ended. Hopefully Tracy will show up here and inform us.

If you go to the Carp Fish In Smashing Success thread in General Freshwater, LSC has added some better pictures of the 22 buffalo and the triple as well, and we'll be adding more pictures tonight and tomorrow.

Question about a buffalo:

My brother-in-law and I were out fishing on Richland Chambers two weekends ago and slabbed a buffalo. We did not have any scales but the measurements were 26 1/2 inches in length and 21 inches in girth. What would you estimate this weight to be? It sure was a lot of fun bringing him up!!

Thanks AGC. I think everyone had a lot of fun.

West - Yeah, buffalo are definitely a lot of fun to catch, fight like beasts lol. I'm afraid I really couldn't tell you what his weight was. Probably in the low to middle teens, just on a guess, maybe 15 pounds? It's hard to say. The biggest in the pictures above was just over 23 pounds, and I don't know how long he was.

I got one about two weeks ago that was right around 23 as well, and he measured 31.5 inches long. Didn't get his girth, but he was about 10 inches top to bottom, a bit longer but probably not as football shaped as the 23 pounder above. So for that length, I'd give a very rough guess of low to middle teens area. LoneStarCarper might be able to help you guess, he's caught many more then I have.

Whatever it's weight was, I bet it was a blast catching! Did you get a picture?

No we even said when we left that morning that we should turn around and get the camera and of course we were too lazy to do that.

I ended up winning that tournament with 175 lbs
Enriquo got second with 167lbs, and Moses got third with 75lbs. We had a great time and nice meeting you Starless Dragon. Thank you very much for helping me net the fish and taking the pictures. Maybe we can fish again soon.

It was at Grapevine Lake. There were many people, and everyone was fishing with something a little different. Corn, various boilies and various doughbaits were the primary baits, I think.
