Need a pool pump installed,(have new pump) it's just 2 pvc connections and 4 wires. Was quoted $250.00 from a pool co. and $90.00 from a guy off craigslist. I know $250 is just crazy, but is even $90 out of line? I just don't like messing with electricity. Seems like a pretty quick job for someone with a minimum skillset. Am I just being cheap?

someone with a minimum skillset, yes that electric requires a real simple minded individual. to think they need to work with water and electric. zYou get what you pay for, Are they going to have the right fitting, or are they going to piece meal it back together

I think $90 is dirt cheap for replacing the pump. Whoever quoted you $90, may be thinking it's just the motor.

$90 sounds like the labor/service call price to do the work. Parts not included.

I think the guy with the minimum skill set has you over a barrel as you don't like electric. $250 is about average for a two hour billing for a service call. I also would not feel good about using somebody I found on craigslist. Not saying quality is not there but why advertise on craigslist? Not busy, no referral work, no money for advertising? Or they don't charge accordingly for their services?(ie $90). As said above you get what you pay for.

Pay the $250.00. As a pool owner, you are about to find the 'benefits' of pool ownership. Every spring when it comes time to open the pool for the summer, I feel like I shoud just take my wallet and throw it in the pool. I have done most of the work on my pool, electrical and plumbing wise. Its costly at times

Whatever you do, don't use Blue Opus Pools.....owner is Marty. He is an absolute crook. He stiffed me with over a $1,000 of unfinished work last summer.

I replace two of my three pumps last year and were pretty easy. I also had to replace my heater so I spent about $3600.00. Granted it is about 12 years old but geez

$250 is about right for a service call to replace a pump. I've always used AQuality Pool Service out of NRH, TX.

Friggin eh they are, I hate mine

That being said, I replaced mine a few years ago with minimal issue, but it wasn't a snap. Curious why you need piping, I just replaced the motor, do you need a new impeller and trap too?
