Leaving Friday morning to Toledo Bend for the week. Never really wander out of Patroon, we (15 of us) stay at Holly Park. I hear a lot about Indian Mounds, Housen, and 6 mile. Is the fishing really that much better down there to make it worth me venturing out and away from Patroon? Thanks.

You'll catch plenty in Patroon this time of year, if that's where your most comfortable. Good luck!

I wouldn't say it's that much better, but there is always boocoo grass down in those areas and I have had alot of success early on in recent years. I have not fished patroon,, how is the grass in there usually? Fairly consistent or hit and miss? Housen, IM, and 6 mile is usually consistent on it's grass production from year to year, but my other favorite area, 1215/blue lake areas, have been hit or miss on the grass the last few years. Especially the state park flats area. I can remember when those entire flats used to be chok full of hydrilla!! Talk about fun!!

Darold, how is the Blue Lake/State park Flats looking regarding hydrilla? We have a trip planned April 3-6.

I haven't been up north in the last few months. I've heard mixed reports on the catching and the grass, but I'd sure think it's setting up for it to be really good all over. I prefer south myself, but it's just a confidence thing for myself.

Thanks for the info. We always catch some fish in Patroon, but by the end of the week a little new scenery would be nice.

Good luck buddy. Am jealous. That has from everything I have heard and read, always a great fishing lake. But, the darn thing is HUGE!!
From what I have heard/read, a pontoon would/should be a great fishing platform. Many shallows.....
Ya'll have a great time....pea green with envy..... One of these days I will make the trip but, from here, it's a long, long way away form me.

I know myself would get bored being in one area go on down and check it out. I have a camper at Pirates Cove and fish the South and love it but I told my buddy we have to venture up North and check it out some this year.

I talked it over with my fishing partner (Dad) and we are going to get out and do some exploring this year. Hopefully we will find some fish down south. Where's the best ramp to use down around IM and Housen? I'll just just trailer down from holly park.
If any of y'all see a silver/red z521 with a SHO and a couple fat guys in it stop by and say hi.
