Well the fishing was mediocre at best. We caught 6 fish total between 4 guys and the biggest was 3.5 lbs. But trust me, that was the least of the problems on this trip. My buddy, Rudy(Rudy Dep on the TFF) had a major breakdown halfway through day one. We were making a run to Pierce cove from the state park ramp area, just to try something different. About half way between The Tigers and Pierce I turned around to see if Rudy was still following me and he was gone. Turned around to find him just north of the Tigers, he was broke down with some sort of lower unit problem. His prop wouldn't spin at all in forward. 1 hour and 45 minutes later I dragged him into the mouth of the State Park ramp area. He just had his lower unit serviced before this trip, so I'm thinking someone did something wrong there...just a guess. End of trip for Rudy and his partner. This morning we took off from bassin' billy's and headed to the state park. Backed down the ramp, went to fire up my motor to back off the trailer and....you guessed it...nothing...dead battery...end of our trip. We were only gonna fish the early morning anyways because of the strong cold front that was blowing in so we called it a day and head back to San Antonio. Man did that wind kill my fuel MPG on the way home by the way...7.2 mpg with my Tundra fighting that. We caught 5 fish in my boat, and other than the tow in of Rudy, we fished all day Sunday. 4 of 5 came on a 5" senko and the other came on a Livingston Lure DM14. Nothing on TX-rig or spinner bait.
I learned three valuable lessons on this trip:
1) Stay away from Falcon for at least a week after a strong cold front hits down there. Those fish don't like cold weather...at all!! 2) If you screw with a buddy after he breaks down and you towed him in...you deserve what ever happens to you, and can fully expect to be screwed with even harder in return if you have a problem. 3) If you get 2 years out of your cranking battery and you fish a lot, you should consider replacing it because you're on borrowed time. If you are at 4 years and still haven't replaced your cranking battery...your just plain dumb. Yes...I'm just plain dumb!!!
I'm back in business already after a quick trip to Academy. Probably a good idea to write down somewhere when I bought this battery and a reminder of when to replace it. I thought it was 2 years old until I saw the stickers on the side after pulling it out. I'm just glad it happened at the ramp. Headed back to Falcon again next month. Hard to stay away from that lake when you know what's in it.

I was waiting for the mention of a Livingston Lure... lol Sorry for your troubles out there. The one time I ahve been weather was terrible with cold fronts and rain blwoing in. We still managed to catch a bunch of fish though with the biggest being 7.5lbs. Love that lake!

Well, at least you aren't giving up. Stay at it. I hope Rudy's boat repair is as simple as yours was.

Never been to Falcon. Sounds like I missed the "good ole days". I still enjoy reading about everyone's trips. Even if they were cut short due to mechanical failure and bad batteries.

You could of switched one of your trolling motor batteries out with the starting battery and it should start up. Or if u ever carry jumper cables with you, you can jump it. Saves a day of fishing. Don't ask me how I know lol

Yeah, swapping batteries would have been an easy fix, or jumping off one of the deep cycles. But we weren't to excited about going out after the previous day, and we knew that front was about to come roaring threw. So instead of taking a chance on a problem on the water in bad weather, we called it a day.
As for the Livingston Lure jabs, I'm not trying to promote anything. Hell, I could care less if anyone uses them. We caught one fricken 3.5 lb fish on it, and threw one all day long. Not exactly a ringing endorsement. I'm just telling you what we caught our fish on.
