You ok, there, Skyshark? You haven't been eatin' them floatin' fish now have you?

That there is your Lesser Bluegillian Maximus - not to be confused with your Greater Bluegillian Maximus, which is just a tad bigger, but just as mean.

The ponds at the golf course have the biggest. I worked at the Hills course before switching jobs and the fish in those ponds were huge. Night fishing with a buzzbait rocked.

we pay fees for the right to fish some really good ponds, i like it myself. great for the kids and keeps people from coming in there and meat fishing them empty.

I guess I never thought of it like that texdawg. I just cant imagine having to govern a pond! I guess when you have that many people living in on area there are going to be some folks that will take advantage of that. In a way we have the same thing here.....Only if people here do not recognize your ID (ID bieng your face) they give one warning shot...lol. I try not to be like that on my place. There are ALWAYS folks at my house fishing. I usually just ask that they do not take a stringer of fish out so that there are always fish in there.

I would have to say that yes it is a bluegill but more specifically it's a Pumkinseed bluegill. Pumkinseed describing it's "ear". If it was to have a hint of red at the edges it would be a red ear and if it was more oblong it would have been a longear. Nice looking fish and mucho fun to catch.

Our live bait will catch fish or it will die trying.

"The largest bluegill on record was 4 pounds 12 ounces, landed in 1950 from Ketona Lake in Alabama."(TPWD website)
Here's a 5 lb'er picked up out of a fishery pond that had been drained.

I'd like to catch that on some ultra-lite tackle!

Umm, I don't quite know how to tell you this, but a Pumpkinseed is a class of Sunfish, just like a Bluegill, Redear, Longear, Small Mouth Bass, Large Mouth Bass, Crappie and the Green Sunfish. It is more often found in the northern part of the U.S. but that doesn't mean that their aren't any in Texas. The Fish that was shown at the beginning of this post was a Bull Bluegill and a fairly nice one at that. Here is a link about Bluegill.

Just a smaller version of what TPWD does. We pay a fee to fish, must carry an ID and a license. Only difference is the TPWD has a bigger budget and bigger fees.
