I have plenty of Curados and Chronarchs and I love them. My question is that in every box they have spare grey brakes, are they the same as the pink/red ones that come on the reel? If they are not the same when and why would you change out the red ones. The grey ones look a little thicker but im not positive.

I've always wondered the same. If they were different weights or sizes. But then again I would think they would tell u that somewhere in the manual. But why the different colors then?

On other forums (older ones of course) say that they are different weights, and the papers that come with the reels used to state that the green ones were heavier. Now they don't say anything about them being different.

Wondered the same thing. Don't you love a product that contains spare parts in the container without any explainations?

Why are there more than one color of break weights for my Baitcasting VBS system?

Shimano makes two different break weights; Heavy (Black, Grey, or Green in color) and Light (Red, Blue, and Clear in color). Most of the new reels are shipped with the light break weights on the reel, and the heavy break weights in packaging in the box. If the light break weights don’t provide adequate spool stopping power, change them simply by pulling them off of the spool and replace them with the heavier weights.

The aboe is copied from the shimano website.

when I pull out a brake pin sometimes the plastic cap thingys come off, does this mean that brake doesn't work anymore?

I usually have two pins out, if I lost the plastic thingy should I just push that pin back in and pull out a different one that still has the plastic cap?
