I love Bastrop!! Had my worst trip ever there two weeks ago and only caught 3 fish. The warm weather we've had lately should get her going though. Ill be back soon and expect it to be back up to par. I usually expect around 20-30 fish and a couple in the 4 pound range this time of year. Not a big fish lake, but a fun lake.

Fished Bastrop once a couple years ago, heading back this summer. It was some good schooling action when I fished it a couple years ago in the summer. Tons of grass. Numbers lake, but I caught a couple good ones. Seems like it would be great right now, I thought the power plant generated.

The plant isnt generating. Water is on the high 50's-low 60's. Multiple local reports are that fishing it TOUGH! Im heading out tomorrow. Last summer the schooling wasnt what it used to be. The water isnt getting hot like before because they are utilizing other power plants more. I expect it to begin fishing more like a normal lake and not be as easy as it used to be. Hopefully fish will start getting bigger too.

I fished it Sat, Sun, Monday for a few hours each day and it was slow. I was camping with the family so I wasn't fishing real hard but I was expecting a few more fish. Everyone I talked to had a hard time but this was the first warmer days after all the cold.

Thanks for the info guys. With it being a 3-4 hr drive for me I may wait a few months. Had no idea the plant was not generating and keeping the water warmer. I may just stay in town and explore a little on the lower Nueces River down here. Last time I did that though I ended up with a 5 ft alligator gar in my lap that I wanted no part of.

FYI, the water was 62-67. Likely in the 70's near the discharge but I stayed mid lake. Never went to the discharge or inlet. Fishing was SLOW and I gave up around 3pm when the 25mph winds started blowing in. Another few weeks of warm weather and I think they will begin to really turn on.

Man I miss fishing that lake. When I was in college, I lived about a mile from there and fished it all the time. My GPA probably would have been better if I hadn't lived so close.....lol
