Have a buddy trying to sell me a 02 Tundra extend cab, 2wd, V6, good tires, 198k miles and taken care of. He has had since 60k and all maintenance kept up on it. What do ya'll figure it is worth and what would average life be on this truck ?

It's worth what you'll pay for it, but www.edmunds.com and www.nada.com can give you a starting point. Much depends on how well it was cared for. A well-maintained engine can last miles and miles more. Other things like the interior or plastic parts may be questionable.

A relative has a 2001 Toyota Camry that we bought new and kept for 9 years. It has about 175,000 miles on it. The engine, transmission, exterior and interior (kept in the garage) are still going strong. But in the last year the plastic top of the radiator blew, and one of the front strut mounts broke.

Figure the book value on the Tundra and pay a mechanic to go over it head-to-toe if you really want it. If you buy it and it falls apart a week later, don't blame your buddy.

Doesn't Texas have a lemon law, or is that for new cars only?

Also, get a pre-purchase inspection. Costs <$20 and they check pretty much everything from my experience. Got mine done at a tire center and they went over all of the regular maintenance parts and drove it around the block. Told me in detail everything they checked and for me to change the wiper blades and gave me their opinion on whether I should buy it or not. Nice guy. Cost me $18 and took about 2 hours.

Also, not to steal your topic, I was wondering about milage myself. I'm searching the market for a truck under $10K to tow my boat and possibly use it as a DD work truck. I've been looking at some GM 1500 and 2500s but they all have 250+ miles on them. I've seen some 2002-2004 trucks with 130-150 miles but not sure if a truck with that much milage would last me 6+ years.
