How safe would you say blocks and ratchets are when it comes to transporting your kayak? Being that I have an impala that's paid off, I'm not selling that thing till the time truly permits with the right situations. That being said , I can't exactly throw my kayak in the trunk and be on the road. I've been using just the foam blocks and ratcheting the kayak down through the doors, then securing the bow. I would like to participate in the capital city tournaments and was planning on hopping on at the 3rd stop, considering it was close to home at Ray Bob. Now that it has been reset to Purtis, it makes me nervous to travel that far with the securing system that I have. Do you guys believe that it would be fine to travel in this way, or should I look at other options? I will say it has given me absolutely no problems and doesn't budge on me at all, as well as it is pretty straight forward. It just makes me nervous at the thought of traveling two hours with never driving that distance with my kayak on top of my car in this situation. Any opinions would help! Thanks guys!

You should be fine. That's a very common setup for people car-topping their kayaks. If you want a little extra piece of mind you could also run a stern strap.

+1

Your method works. I've done that several times.

Adding cross bars just makes it easier for you and is easier on your car. I know I scratched up the roof of my car loading it and tore up the door seals running the straps through the inside.
