I have seen them that big or perhaps bigger twice. Once was when I was a child and my parents took us to a place they liked to swim and fish. It had a waterfall and on the rocks going to the base of the fall someone had killed one. His body looked to be five or six inches in diameter.

The second time was when I was traveling to Lubbock to bury my grandmother. Hwy 82 was four lane in this area and even though the speed limit was 55, I was going much faster because there was zero traffic. I saw something laying in the road and only when I was right on it did I realize it was one of these huge rattlers. It was parallel to the lane. If it would have been laying across the lane where I would have run over it, it probably would have blown out both of my front tires. I estimated him being 10-12 feet long.

Western diamondbacks max out at about 7 feet. Bull snakes can get over 9 ft and are very common in that area, maybe that's what you saw.

there is obviously some foreshortening in the image but nonetheless that is a big old snake.

According to Snopes.com "The longest rattlesnake, officially recorded, was an Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake that was 8 feet, one inch in length. Most rattlesnakes are 2-4 feet."
