I have never tried pitching and flipping but I want to start this season. I am 5'8" tall and have been told that the 7'11" rods will be harder for me to get used to. I have be looking at the G-LOOMIS IMX FSR904X and it looks like a nice rod. Let me know if this rod is worth pursuing or if another rod would be better.
Thanks

I am 5'9" and I like a 7'11" or 8' rod, with that said you won't go wrong with g.Loomis IMX. They are bullet proof and likely the best value of all the g.Loomis lines.

They are great flipping rods and heavy c rig rods.

I have that rod and i'm not sure it would be a good rod for someone new to pitching/flipping. It has a really stiff tip and its not the most versatile rod.

I would recommend the MBR 844c IMX. It's got some tip. It's 7' long which will be good for grass or docks.

Well, it really depends on the weights you want to flip/pitch. I'd try to take that close to $400 one of those IMX 904x would've cost and put it towards two different 7"6 rods. One that's got the ideal tip action for 3/8 oz. lures since you'll prob want to flip/pitch baits in that weight range quite often, and the second towards another 7"6 you can use for 3/4 oz to 1 1/2 oz. baits.
One rod that comes to mind is the TFO flipping stick. It has a really nice tip and would be ideal for the lighter weights. The second is... an used IMX 904x for the heavier weights - but there are many other rods that'll do the job just as well. This rod, used, if you're willing to wait a bit, seems to be generally listed in the $150-200 range TYD.
Good luck!!!

I also picked up an IROD flipping stick in a tackle store recently. Very, very impressed with how the rod felt in my hands for the $160 tag. Would be excellent for the 3/8-1/2 oz. bait category.
Only thing is, I don't know why but I tried to locate the rod again on the company's website and they don't show a 7'5" flipping stick which is what I coulda sworn I picked up.

Well, you'll get several opinions, so here's mine. Pitching and flipping are 2 different things. For flipping, one of the heavy 7+ ft rods is fine, but... If you plan to fish on a boat dock lake...accuracy is a must (or it should be) You need to be able to put a t-rig worm with a 3/16 weight 20' up under a dock that is 6" off the water....for that sort of thing, a 6'6" medium with a fast tip is hard to beat.

I am learning alot from this. First off 5-20, the FSR904X is used. Very lightly used 1 time on a fishing trip a guy I know took. It is like new but he is willing to sell it to me for $200. From what I hear here, that would be my 3/4 - 1 oz pitching rod. I have a St Croix Avid Inshore 7' rod, medium action, fast tip that is quite a bit beefier than a regular med action rod that sounds like it may fit the bill for the 1/4 to 1/2 oz weights and for flipping. If I pick up the FSR904X and use it and the Avid, sounds like I should be set. Does that sound right.

Flipping and pitching is two totally different things. I'm 5'8 and when I pitch I use a 6'8-7'3 foot or the tip of my rod will hit the water or boat. When I flip I use a 7'6-8 foot rod

Well, again, it really depends on the water you fish most often and the weight of the baits you'll probably want to use most of the time.
My favorite flipping stick was a G1 Shimano Crucial 7"6 model that was discontinued. It was awesome for those 3/8 oz. lures but I could also get by with using it for up to 1 1/2 oz. baits. The rod finally broke and I replaced it with an IMX 904x. As much as I tried to make it work, it's just not the most ideal rod for light baits.
You definitely can pitch with a 7' rod but it's just so much easier to do that with a 7"6 rod.
If you're only going to buy one 7"6 f/p rod, I would probably pick something other than the 904x.
