I finally got the kayak out for a nice day to check out the new Power Pole Micro. I had it out once before but the use was very limited. Before anyone asks, no i did not pay for the power pole. I was asked to test it out and give an honest opinion which is what I intend to do. I'm not sponsored by Power Pole in any way.
MOUNTING- mounting the Power Pole is going to be specific to each kayak. It comes with a mounting bracket that can be mounted in any flat space. Originally I thought I would mount it in the back of the kayak but later decided that the side behind the seat on my Slayer was the better option. I'm glad I chose this location for a few reasons. 1st if you run out of power you can manually remove the pole if you need to. 2nd, if you wireless remote runs out of battery you can reach the controls mounted on the unit. The actual mounting process was pretty easy. I have heard that some companies are coming out with custom mounts specific to each kayak which I hope is true.
Battery Power - this is pretty simple. I'm using a deer feeder battery, separate from my FF. the unit comes with a fuse for the unit and I just added a couple spade connections to connect to my battery. There is an option for a direct mount lithium ion battery as well.
Use - I used my 8 foot stake out pole with the unit. Any 3/4" pole will do. I was able to stake out in as deep as 7' of water. It worked exactly as designed. What I really liked was going down the bank and putting the unit down to stop, then only raising it a foot off the bottom and drifting a bit and then putting it back down. It does take a few times to get used to putting the pole down while standing. It does slightly lift the kayak but not so much to make you uncomfortable.
Overall - I would give it 4 out of 5 stars. It does what it is supposed to. Is it worth $599? That is up for you to decide. It's going to really come in handy when sight fishing bass in shallow water. If it helps you land a tournament winning fish then it will probably pay for itself. I can promise I can fish a shallow water area more efficiently than you if you don't have it. Each angler will have to decide ultamitly if its for them.

Been waitng to see what you thought about it. Thanks for the review. I was very curious about the location of your mount and I guess it's a fine spot. I have no doubt that thing will make my fishing easier as long as it works as designed.

Do you have any pictures of it mounted? +1. Also a photo of just the bracket without the unit if possible. Thanks for the review!

Here's a few pics of the unit mounted today. I was really impressed with it today. I am starting to get used to using it and its becoming very nice to have. Today I fished a shallow 70 acre pond and the Power Pole did very well.

Nice Dan! One of those would be great on the K 12. It would be perfect fishing the marshes and flats down on the coast....

Very cool. I was wondering how they would work out in a kayak. So have you figured out how many times it will go up and down yet? Just wanting how long the battery will last.

Don't quote me on this but I think I heard 120 up and downs. I could be totally wrong on that but I will check with Brandon at JL Marine tomorrow to be sure. I'm using a 7ah battery and used it pretty regularly for about 7 hours today with no issues. One cool feature I forgot to mention is that you can double tap the down button and it will go all the way down until it feels the bottom and then stop. It will do the same going up. Really nice feature rather than holding the button down.
