Pinasbay, oh boy! What a hornet's nest you potentially could stir up with that question. The topic of whether or not to let double digit fish go is one that a doctoral dissertation could cover.

Throughout the year we typically put back more big fish than we keep. This time of year, clients are paying to be put on big fish, so that's what we try to do. If they want to eat it, mount it, or throw it back, then that's their choice.

I dont see the problem being that ddfish are considered overs and you can only keep 2, we boated 11, all overs, and let 5 go. I think its managed quite well

Bottomline is that most people who hire a guide want a double digit fish. Its their chose.

I feel that conservation of larger fish ranks pretty high on most Texoma guides list. I always encourage not force CPR of larger fish. But ultimately. As far as my boat is concerned. The decision is based on the one who caught it.

The decision is based on the one who caught it. Agree, and I will return any future overs to the lake. We kept our catch this time(all overs) bc my son wanted some meat and dangit chris couldnt get us any small ones

In Texas ....most double digit fish eat twice as good as single digit fish I can make them all taste good..... Texoma is pretty well managed

It's just like anything else pinsabay! We don't worry about landfill until they spill onto our front yards and smell like a fish market? Hey let's recycle? Gas prices climb to $ 5.00/gal........Better buy a hybrid car?? We have too much smog and air pollution? Carpool Lanes and MassTransit pop up? Holly _HIT we don't have anymore trees to cut down? No more clear cutting....Wow we should plant trees.....Selective Harvest???? You can go on and on and on!
My 2cents.........Texoma has millions of 12" to 19" striper.......Why keep a 10 lb fish that will make more 10 lb fish? Keep TEN 19" fish and eat them?
I fished a company tournament on Texoma 1991. We had 30 boats with at least 3 guys in each boat. I caught a 14.5 lb striper and finished 4th? Wish I could find the polaroid picture of the fish? I remember when the limit was changed on Texoma and most guides went nuts? From my limited experience, Texoma had much bigger fish in the early 90's. I've seen more big fish the last 4-5 years! Keep the 1 lb to 5 lb fish and let the bigs go!
I know some will jump on and say.........striper only live 5 years and they die when caught in the hot summer.....Eat'M! PooEEE FooEE!
If Texoma gives up lots of Big Fish, more Anglers on this Forum visit. More Anglers = more guides hired! More Anglers = more hotel rooms booked, more business for restaurants, more gas purchased, more lures sold, and so on! Hunters chat about selective harvesting all the time? Anglers should too! That's it, I'm done! Seen this post for several weeks! TFF has one or two of these per year!

Kudos to Chris, you, and yours for hammering it out and making a great day out of subpar conditions. And a big hell yeah for taking some home to eat. In reguards to keeping "overs." As far as I look at it. "Overs" raise no question as to eat or not eat until they truly become larger (for Texoma) fish. 20-24 inch fish are now a dime a dozen here. Fortunately they make up the majority of the long fish in a box of stripers under normal circumstances.
