Im looking at getting a new fly reel. I have a redington crosswater 5 wt and the reel in my opinion could be better. I was looking at the Okuma SLV as well as a Sage 1650. I wish I could afford a Konic but just cant figure spending that money for bass and trout. If any of yall have any other suggestions im more than ears to hear them! thanks guys

After looking at which rods and reels I have and regularly use and those I don't, I have several for sale. See the detail and photos at Rods and Reels for sale . Note, the Orvis 4/5, the Battenkill BBS IV (7wt.) and the Orvis Frequent Flyer 6wt. are sold as of today. haven't had time to update site.
In this life there is fly fishing and tying...and then there is all that other stuff in between that doesn't matter.

I got an slv on sale at academy for 14 bucks. it preformed well till I drove over it with my truck in Missouri lol. In My defense I had driven eight hours straight through jumped in the river and fish six hours and was headed back to camp and left it sitting on the back of my truck I didn't drive over it until I went back looking for it and saw it too late in the dark. But I never ha issues with it.

Good advice. I have a Lamson Konic and Okuma SLV. The Okuma reel is ok, but the drag adjustment is not great. The adjustment between free spooling and too tight is maybe 3/4 of a turn. I love my Konic that I got on e-bay for about $75 which was about $20 more than what I paid for the SLV. The Konic is miles better.

I would love a Konic or Allen really. I hear good things about the SLVs being decent for the price. I don't really care too much about drag as most of the fish I catch are fought on the rod. Thanks for the input though guys. weighing my options as of now

Should I trust a used reel? even if it is a Lamson? hoo boy! That is a good question. I'd say it's like asking "should I trust a used car?" Oh so many variables. But if one does ones research good deals are possible.

Just like anything else, pay attention to the sellers rating on ebay. 99% of people on there are honest. I've bought half a dozen reels on ebay and have had zero issues, but I'm sure it's possible to get cheated. I've been cheated more on amazon than on ebay though.

I might snag me one on there real soon. The Konic looks good and I saw a few Konic II also. I do like that Allen trout 2 though Jonesy. Hard choice!

I've purchased lots of mid to high end reels on the internet and have only had two bad experiences in 20 years of doing so. Both would not have happened on eBay. In one case the Abel reel I bought had "boat rash" not mentioned by the seller. In the second, the guy cashed my check and never sent me the reel.
In all other cases, the used reels I bought worked out fine. In my personal opinion, any Lamson is better that any Okuma, hands down. As with anything, you get what you pay for. If you buy an Abel, Sage, Lamson, Orvis, Tibor, Hatch or Ross, you'll be fine.

Thanks Mickfly, Rhyne and Winchester for the replies. I think Im just gonna wait a little bit and pony up the cash and get a Lamson, Allen or Sage. Maybe a Ross. So many options haha

The last two new fly reels that I have bought were Orvis BBS reels. I keep getting a pretty good coupon from them a couple or three times a year and that makes them pretty reasonable. I have been very happy with the quality of those reels.
